What Are the Best Waterproof Phones?

What Are the Best Waterproof Phones?

The best waterproof phones are pretty much the same as the best phones these days. The best waterproof phones on store shelves help prevent accidents like dropping your phone in water. These phones have an IP rating that shows how water-resistant the phone is.

For example, if your phone has an IP67 or IP68 rating, it can be immersed in water of varying depths for up to 30 minutes. In this article, we will list the best waterproof phones on the market. Check out the specs and features to choose the best waterproof mobile phone.

What Are the Best Waterproof Phones in 2025?

Here are the best waterproof phones you can buy right now:

1. iPhone 15 Pro Max

As you’d expect from a phone as premium as the iPhone 15 Pro Max, it promises to keep your phone dry. With an IP68 water and dust resistance rating, Apple promises that all of the new phones, including the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15, and iPhone 15 Plus, can withstand being submerged in water up to 6 meters (about 20 feet) for up to 30 minutes. That should be enough time to recover your phone if you drop it.

These impressive water resistance credentials are combined with the best camera and performance of any phone we’ve tested, a fantastic tetraprism telephoto lens, and, somehow, improved battery life once again.

The iPhone 15 Pro is nearly identical to the Pro Max, but the larger phone still reigns supreme at the top of the range. The larger display and longer battery life may be the only differences, but they’re enough to deliver the ultimate iPhone experience you can get right now.

2. Google Pixel 8a

Google’s budget smartphone packs a punch. It’s a solid upgrade in every way. This device has the Pixel 8 Pro’s Tensor G3 processor, a noticeably bright and fast 120Hz display, and a 4492mAh battery that’ll last you all day. Plus, the phone has an IP68 rating, making it a capable water-resistant camera. Seven years of software support adds to the attractive package.

The Google Pixel A series has made a name for itself. It’s affordable, offers flagship-level specs, and makes the right compromises. What’s not to like, right? The Pixel 8a sticks to that formula, offering most of the Pixel 8 Pro’s best features at a $500 price point.

That means you still get the new Tensor G3 chipset and the much-hyped seven years of software support. But the fact that the Tensor G3 falls short of its flagship rivals in terms of raw performance is another story.

Don’t expect equal AI capabilities either, but the Pixel 8a offers a nice taste of the future. Gemini-based enhancements like Magic Editor, Audio Magic Eraser, Circle to Search, and Mail Summary are all here.

The Pixel 8a doesn’t make any headway when it comes to camera specs. It’s the same 64MP sensor as last year, and it still takes decent, but not amazing, images.

That said, Google has tweaked the color science this year, so it’s not quite the same. The 4,495mAh battery is good for a day’s use, but you’ll need to charge it overnight. Sadly, charging is still molasses-slow and only takes 18W.

The Pixel 8a isn’t as well protected against the elements as some of the other phones on this list. However, its IP67 rating is still good enough to withstand a shallow immersion in water. The Pixel 8a can survive immersion in 3 feet of water for up to 30 minutes. At $500, it’s a pretty penny, but the 8a is still a decent value.

3. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6

Samsung has improved the device in several ways with the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6, following the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5. Most notably, it has a longer 7-year update commitment, a larger battery, and an official dust resistance rating. All of this in a compact package that will appeal to those who crave a small phone.

Samsung has been working on folding screen technology for years, but it looks like the company has finally refined the design in this generation. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 boasts an updated hinge design that makes it easier to open with one hand.

The biggest change is the IP48 rating, which means it’s now certified to prevent larger solid particles from entering the phone. The Z Flip 6 maintains the same level of water resistance as before, so it won’t be damaged if it gets submerged in water.

In addition to being more durable, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 also features the same external display, a more powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, and an improved main camera.

The battery capacity has also finally been increased to last longer, which was a big criticism of the Flip 5. So if you’re looking for convenience, portability, or a smaller form factor, this phone is for you.

The new Motorola Razr 2024 is also worth a look, with its IPX8 rating and larger cover screen, but its limitations keep it out of our list.

4. Asus Zenfone 10

The Zenfone 10 offers flagship performance, a great display and camera, but squeezes it into a comfortable, one-handed compact form factor that boasts IP68 rating and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

If you’re looking for a smaller, easier-to-handle phone with one hand, the Asus Zenfone 10 is probably the one for you. Instead of a massive display like the Pixel 7 Pro or S23 Ultra, the Zenfone 10 has a bright and sharp 5.9-inch display. With its small size, tactile back, and bold design, the Asus Zenfone 10 is a compact dream.

Boasting an IP68 rating, Asus says on the Zenfone 10 site that it can withstand being submerged in “tap water” for 30 minutes at a depth of 1.5 meters. Here’s a fun fact about the Zenfone 10: it has a 3.5mm headphone jack for wired headphones, and it’s still waterproof. That’s doubly rare.

The Zenfone 10 also comes in a few fun colors, including Eclipse Red, Midnight Black, Aurora Green, Comet White, and Starry Blue.

5. Blackview BL9000 Pro

The Blackview BL9000 Pro isn’t for everyone. But if you’re an outdoor adventurer, work on the job, or need a phone that can handle the rigors of life, it’s a great choice. The phone is MIL-spec rated, so it can handle being thrown into a pool or shower.

Plus, Blackview didn’t skimp on performance either. The phone runs most apps and games just fine.

The Blackview BL9000 Pro isn’t just waterproof; it can withstand life’s toughest conditions. With its IP69K certification, the BL9000 goes beyond IP67 and IP68 ratings.

Being submerged in water up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes is no problem for this phone. In fact, it can withstand temperatures ranging from -4 degrees Fahrenheit to 140 degrees Celsius, as well as high-pressure jets. Thanks to its MIL-STH-810H rating, it’s also ready for outdoor adventures.

Unlike many rugged phones, the Blackview BL9000 doesn’t sacrifice performance. In our review, we found the Mediatek Dimensity 8020 chipset and 12GB of RAM to be perfectly capable. Surprisingly, the phone also includes 512GB of storage.

From everyday use to gaming, this phone can handle it all. You can even enjoy playing high-end titles on its vibrant 6.78-inch 120Hz IPS display. And there’s a 50MP main camera and a 13MP ultra-wide shooter, neither of which are impressive.

Don’t worry about battery life. This phone has a massive 8800mAh cell, so you can expect to get through a few days of battery life. And with support for 120W charging, it won’t take too long to charge either.

The Blackview BL9000 Pro stands out in other ways, too. For example, it has an onboard thermal imaging camera powered by FLIR. Plus, the dual Harman Kardon PA speakers ensure you won’t need to carry a Bluetooth speaker with you on your next picnic. Just be careful: You might have to hit the gym to lug around a 412g smartphone.

6. Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra

Like other Galaxy flagships, Samsung The Galaxy S24 Ultra is IP68 water-resistant, so you can drop it in water up to 5 feet deep without any worries.

But the real value of this phablet comes from its other features, like its built-in S Pen. On the back of the Galaxy S24 Ultra, there are two telephoto lenses that help you capture more detail when zooming in on photos. Not to mention the new, superior 200MP main sensor.

The 6.8-inch AMOLED screen offers a dynamic refresh rate that adjusts depending on what you’re doing. For example, when scrolling through a web page, the refresh rate can go up to 120Hz for a smoother experience. This is the ultimate smartphone, but it comes with a price tag to match.

7. Sony Xperia 1 V

The Sony Xperia 1 V is an expensive but capable smartphone. It boasts a truly fantastic OLED display, long battery life, and one of the most versatile camera systems on any smartphone. It’s expensive, but premium smartphones often come with a price tag.

Sony was one of the first smartphone OEMs to include IP ratings on its smartphones, and the Sony Xperia Z1S is famous for its water resistance.

The Sony Xperia 1 V continues that tradition with an interesting, but still very water-resistant IP65/IP68 rating. Plus, the Xperia 1 V has flagship-level specs, a great display, and a unique camera system.

For the camera, there are three, including a 48MP main shooter, a 12MP telephoto lens, and a 12MP ultra-wide. You can shoot 4K video at up to 120FPS and do a lot of other cool stuff. However, there’s a learning curve, as Sony’s software isn’t the most intuitive.

In any case, this phone does a little bit of everything, and it doesn’t complain much when it does. The S24 Ultra is still better, but it’s $200 cheaper and only comes unlocked.

8. Google Pixel 8 Pro

Google has released some really great phones this year. The Pixel 8 Pro is impressive in almost every way, except for its abysmal battery life. It’s also IP68 water-resistant, like many other flagships. That means it can be submerged up to 1 meter deep for 30 minutes.

Of course, being a Pixel, the Pixel 8 Pro has a fantastic camera that’s impressive in most situations. The phone goes head-to-head with the iPhone 15 Pro Max when it comes to taking photos, which is saying a lot. And thanks to the new Tensor G3 chipset, the Pixel 8 Pro has a ton of software tricks up its sleeve.

How do I know if my phone is waterproof?

The first thing you should do is go to Google and type in your phone model number and the phrase “IP rating” to see if your phone has an IP rating. Then, you need to know what that IP rating means.

If it’s IPX4 or IPX5, it’s waterproof. IPX7 and IPX8 can be submerged in water at varying depths for varying amounts of time. The rare IPX9 means your phone can be submerged in water for even longer periods of time.

If your phone doesn’t have an IP rating, it’s not certified as waterproof. However, some OEMs, such as OnePlus, claim that their phones are waterproof without having an official IP certification. For such OEMs, your mileage may vary. A phone without an IP rating or waterproof claim is not 100% waterproof.
