What are the best alternative investments?

So what’s a person to do when the banks are offering ridiculously low interest rates and the markets would seem too volatile to invest in after the last crash? Well more and more people these days are looking for alternative opportunities but with so many out there it’s hard to know what to choose. Here’s some of the best alternative investments to help you boost not only your portfolio but your net worth too;

Fine Wine

It’s one of if not the best preforming asset classes over the past 20 years and prices are set to rise along with demand from China. Bordeaux is one of the more popular choices with drinkers and investors alike due to not only the laws in the region where it’s produced but also simple supply and demand fundamentals in theory for every bottle that is consumed all the rest are now worth more and here’s the best bit being a perishable item wine is 100% tax free and let’s be honest who likes paying tax right?

Art

While this is a broad term as there is so many different types of art you could invest in anything from new works to the old masters and even pieces from well-known artists. Now on average for “art” investments research suggests average growth rates from 1% - 5% which is just as bad as the banks but in reality if you find the right pieces you can make a small fortune. The Old Masters are a safest bet and in the last 10 years their works have increased 286% which is a much more appealing return!

Classic Cars

Now while were used to cars depreciating in value as time goes on the more desirable classic cars doing the complete opposite and going up in value. The most wanted classic cars have over doubled in value over the past 4 years but even the type of classics most of us could afford have been increasing in value by up to 20% per annum.

Antique Furniture

While in the past 10 years antique furniture has had the worst run of all luxury investments dropping 24% but that’s due to it going out of fashion and while I’m sure it will make a comeback one day the money right now is in early to mid-20th century items which in contrast have jumped a massive 29% over the same period.

Stamps

So it’s one of the oldest collecting games and one of the most lucrative ones too. The value of collectable stamps is up 16% this year so far 34% in the past 5 and a mind blowing 195% in the past 10 but bear in mind this is for stamps kept in mint condition so if you do invest make sure you keep them stamps safe.

Coins

Rare coins are one of the most resilient parts of the alternative investment market at the current time with their values up 10% in the past year and up a whopping 221% over the past 10 years who wouldn’t want to see returns like this right? Just make sure you do your research before putting your money into coins though as they are very easy to fake unlike all the other investments you see here.
