What is the best advice for Easter Bun break out for low carbers?

Well, LCHF certainly suits some people but at Easter the draw of Hot Cross Buns is great and let's face it, you gotta live.......So the question is if you break out on a bun, do you have butter or not??

Does the addition of fat to the carb intake have a deleterious effect on the subsequent metabolism meaning the insulin response will drive the fat consumed at the same time into storage i.e. the arteries....BAD BUTTER!

Alternatively does the big blob of butter on the bun lead to slowed gastric emptying and therefore slow absorption of the bun carbohydrate so a lesser, perhaps less problematic, insulin response is seen?....GOOD BUTTER!

Interested in opinions...... I'm having butter on mine (just for the taste) and then off to exercise. Good health!

Good thought! What a lot we can think about when we consider the humble bun.

Hmm. how about taking the "Ssss" out of insulin and making the bun with whole grain flour and adding inulin fibre?

Good thought Dr Begg, my sentiment exactly.......but the point is we really don't know.....and does it depend on how quickly you eat it?.......what drink you have with it, tea or coffee??.......and if one bun or two??.......FOOD FOR THOUGHT!!!

The interesting thing about this question is that if BUTTER GOOD then many "low fat" advocates would be NOT putting butter on their buns and may consequently be increasing their sugar load and insulin response......trying to do the "right thing" but actually doing harm.....remains an interesting question but worth thinking about.
