What a Bamboo Tree and Your Dream Have in Common.

What a Bamboo Tree and Your Dream Have in Common.

Imagine you are growing a bamboo tree.  It’s growth is not like your normal tree.  A bamboo tree needs to be watered and have its soil nurtured every single day.  The tree is not visible when it is growing. This makes it look like you are watering the ground and getting absolutely nowhere.  No results to show for your hard work. People may see you and laugh because of your “foolishness”.

What these people don’t realize is that a bamboo tree takes 5 years of nurturing until it starts showing results.  Nothing will be visible and then all of the sudden your bamboo tree grows 80 feet in just 6 weeks!

Everyone wants to grow 80 feet in 6 weeks, but only a small group of people will put in the work to do so.  5 years of no minumal results they want will make many people give up. They will lose the long term vision of what they are building. Use this to your advantage!

If your dream takes time to develop then give it time. Put in the work every day to get better. Don’t get caught trading short term economics for your long term goal.  You may not be getting the results that your friend, neighbor, or coworker is. However, do not fall into the trap.  Don’t buy that expensive car or watch because you want them to think you are successful! Take the criticism and let the bamboo tree do the talking in the future.

Robert Kiyosaki has something he calls the 10,000 hour rule.  When you are building your passion or business you should not give up until you have put in 10,000 hours.  10,000 hours can be accomplished by giving 40 hours a week for 5 years. That is the amount of time it will usually take for you to find out if there is success and fulfillment in whatever you are trying to accomplish.  Of course, your goals it may take much longer than 5 years. However, if you are truly passionate about what you are building... be patient. Everyone wants the 80 foot tree, but nobody wants to put in the work. Be the small group of people that actually will.
