What? Another Consultancy? Paaaahhhliiise (Please)...

I am sorry. I understand that there are already a lot of great, more established, more experienced, wiser and better resource-backed consultancies out there.

Hands down. No challenge. I AM nobody.

I do not claim to be better, smarter or more effective than them. There are quite a lot out there that I admire and have learned from through the years. And for that I am thankful. (Note: I still learn from them! And anyone actually.)

But forgive me for putting up my own.

I know the question that might be going through your mind right now is, "so what?" or "who cares?" Or maybe there's a more subtle question that goes like this, "ok, why should I even listen to you."

I find all of these questions to be fair questions.

I know that every consultancy promises to do THIS or THAT.

The only promise I have is this: "I will partner with you in unleashing the unique greatness in everyone."

After working for 2 decades and 6 companies both Filipino and Foreign, I have seen the same sad story over and over and over and over again. And I'm tired not being able to do much about it.

What is this sad story that keep repeating before my eyes throughout this years? - PEOPLE'S POTENTIALS BEING WASTED AWAY. I have seen that in so many forms. It can be a young, driven, idealistic employee who gets misunderstood and explodes. It can be a new hire who lands in a good company but with a boss who is a wrong fit for him or her and resigns immediately. Or it can be a tenured employee who is desperately paddling to help the organization but the organization is unwilling to make the changes necessary to perform better because it's too comfortable being good and the employee settles for mediocre performance. Or it can be a mean manager or executive who wants what's best for the company but fails to take care of the employees.

There are a million stories out there similar to these. I AM CONFIDENT THAT IN MOST CASES, they do not mean anything bad to anyone or anything. But many of them will "go to their graves with their songs still inside them."

My conviction is that EVERYONE has something GREAT to offer. The job of HR and the Management is to ENABLE this to become a possibility. I believe that we should make the employees and the management understand that being part of an organization is a partnership. Many companies hold regular team-building sessions. It fires up the people for a couple of weeks - or days - and then everybody is back to reality.

There is a way to make learning stick. One way, is to make learning become part of the culture of the organization. But of course, there's more to it than that.

Speaking of culture, are you proud of the culture of your organization?

And if you are an executive, do you even know the culture of your organization? No, not the one on the walls but the REAL, day-to-day "way-of-doing-things-here" kind of culture.
