What Ancient Farmers Will Teach You About Getting Health

I’d bet my bitcoins you want to be strong, lean, powerful, and pain free--not JUST strong, Or jacked, Or powerful, right?

I call this layering of multiple skills fitness biodiversity. You may call this being the total package.

Either way, building the strong, lean, healthy body you want requires balance like we’ll help you develop inside the Bach Performance Physique Coaching Program

Think of it like farming.

Most modern farmers base their business around monoculture, or mass-farming a single crop, like soy or corn. Because they have a narrow focus, they can scale production and make more money.

But when problems arise, they rely on insecticides, fungicides etc. to kill the problem.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t address the root issue: Why is there a fungus or insect issue in the first place?

The modern approach often addresses the symptom, not the root problem… similar to a most run of the mill training plans.

In the gym, this is like going all-in on building a big bench but ignoring building your back or improving shoulder mobility. When you feel a twinge in your shoulder, you blow it off, slap on some icy hot, pop a few pills, and get back to work.

It works for the short term, but eventually, the pain is too much and you can no longer bench press. You can’t raise your shoulder above your head, and you need surgery, which prevents you from training for months.

I prefer the opposite approach: the biodynamic approach.

In a more ancient, biodynamic farming approach farmers rely on biodiversity amongst their crops for protection and growth.

For example, many Italian vineyards grow herbs like thyme and rosemary to distract animals like sheep and goats from eating their grapes, but still bring them to the vines for manure.

Or if fungus attacks their crops, they’ll use natural compost from burnt food, which is high in carbon and low in pH to kill the fungus while protecting the soil.

In both cases, this biodiverse approach uses the tools in front of them to address underlying root issues, to fix them, and to continue growing.

Your approach to fitness requires the same approach if you’re going to get and stay strong, lean, and healthy over the long term.

If you don’t take care of your joints, you’ll eventually be unable to do the things you enjoy in the gym and in life.

If you’re not getting stronger in the gym, you’ll eventually plateau in trying to build muscle.

If you’re not lean, it’ll be almost impossible to build muscle without growing your belly.

If you go “all in” to get jacked but train too aggressively, use drugs or follow insane crash/binge diets...you’ll eventually pay the price.

And if you can’t find a balanced approach to fitness that improves your life rather than consumes it, what’s the point?

At Bach Performance we’ve helped clients deadlift 700 pounds, get D-1 scholarships and compete in the NFL, NBA, and NHL,  improve joint health and get out of pain, lose 100+ pounds and keep it off for over 5 years and get ripped abs and single-digit body fat. Heck, we’ve had clients have more energy and get promotions at work, start new jobs, and take on new hobbies because they’re more confident and able bodies.

And at the end of the day, the goal for 99% of us is to have a bit of everything, all while having the time to spend with friends and family

And that, my friend, is what training biodiversity gives you.
