What is an air-to-water heat pump? What kind of heat pump should I buy?

Some users don't seem to know much about air-to-water heat pumps. This article tells you in easier-to-understand words.

The working principle of air-to-water heat pumps (based on the reverse Carnot cycle principle) is opposite to that of air conditioners. Air-to-water heat pumps absorb heat energy from the air, circulate it through the internal system of the heat pump, and transfer the heat energy into water to provide heating and cooling needs for users, which is the new technology you are familiar with.

This heat pump only requires a small amount of electricity to drive the compressor to absorb up to 4 times of free heat energy from the air. Therefore, ideally, it can save up to 75% of electricity compared to traditional electric heating equipment (where 1 kW of electricity generates 1 kW of heat energy).

Air-to-water heat pumps can be classified into the following types based on different application scenarios:

  1. House heating and cooling heat pumps: End devices can be connected to radiators (for heating), underfloor heating (for heating), and fan coils (for cooling), meeting the cooling needs in summer and heating needs in winter.
  2. Domestic hot water heat pumps: End devices are connected to domestic water tanks to meet users' domestic hot water heating needs. In addition, there is an All-in-One heat pump, which integrates the heat pump and domestic water tank into one unit.
  3. Swimming pool heat pumps: Mainly used to heat swimming pool water to achieve a comfortable swimming experience at a constant temperature. Some customers also use it for application in fish pond farms (customized).
  4. The latest tri-service heat pump refers to a heat pump with three functions, which can meet the needs of house heating, cooling, and year-round domestic hot water.

The above four types of heat pumps can be divided into:

  1. According to the ambient temperature, they can be categorized into normal temperature heat pumps and ultra-low temperature heat pumps.

  • Normal temperature heat pumps: The minimum operating ambient temperature of the heat pump is -7°C, meaning the machine will stop working if the local ambient temperature drops below -7°C based on protective mechanisms.
  • Ultra-low temperature heat pumps: The minimum operating ambient temperature of the heat pump is -30°C.

2. According to the power supply specifications, they can be divided into household heat pumps and commercial heat pumps.
