What To Aim When You Do A TEDx Talk

Majority of people do a TEDx talk and get disappointed from the results they get.

There are also people that landed in the The Top 10 World's TEDx Chart for Most Watched TEDx Talks but had no idea how they managed to attract thousands of millions of views. When I ask what their strategy will be to use this fame and visibility they all say 'positioning', but in fact most of them have no idea how to position themselves as the experts and TEDx speakers they are.

That's why today I will give you the 9 aims of different elements of the TEDx talk and journey as each of them brings you different result and takes you in a direction you may want or you don't want to go, depending on your TEDx goal

? Some people do the mistake to get on TEDx stage and sell what they do or do a motivational speech. As a result their talk doesn't get published

?? The aim of your TEDx Talk is to inspire & educate others

? The most common mistake people do is to put a TEDx title that tells people what they will learn.

Would you watch a movie which name tells you what will happen at the end? It's same with the TEDx titles - they need to create curiosity so people click to watch it. Therefore

?? The aim of your TEDx Title is to attract people to watch your talk

? Majority of TEDx speakers tell their wisdom at the end of the talk. There are two issues with this old style talks.

Firstly, about 50% of the people don't watch videos till the end and that includes TEDx talks as well. If you deliver your wisdom at the end only half of the people will hear it

Secondly, the human brain can't remember something that is said just once. The neuroscience teach us that we need to hear something 7-8 times before we start remembering it. The more we hear it the longer we'll remember it.

If you want people to remember your talk, you need to turn your wisdom into a powerful Key Phrase and repeat it throughout the speech. In short

?? The aim of your repetitive TEDx Key Phrase is to make your talk memorable

? The biggest issue when someone sits down and starts writing a script is how to open up their speech. Let me take some pressure off your shoulders -

?? The aim of your opening phrase is to hook people to watch further

? Majority of TEDx speakers say at the end "and remember this today ..." followed by long sentences that actually don't give a powered up summary of their idea worth spreading. That's why the next aim is

?? The aim of your closing phrase - to magnify the wisdom you shared

? Once delivering their TEDx talk speakers believe that the only thing left is to share it on social media, as that will help the video to go viral. If you think the same way you can't be further away from the truth! Sharing your TEDx talk on Linkedin, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook or any social platform will NOT help you increase the views. My own stats shows that only 20% of the people who have seen your post will click to watch your talk. Majority of TEDx speakers are not influencers with millions of followers and posts with big engagement. If you are one of them then change the aim into more achievable one:

?? The aim of your Social Media strategies is to position you as a TEDx speaker

I know I always disappoint people with the previous aim and reality I give, as most speakers do want to spread their TEDx idea amongst millions. Know that, Yes! There is a way! We live in the 21st century when everything goes through either social media or follows the same rules, which means that even a TEDx talk should be looked as a video hosted on a website ( ted.com ) and various platforms ( YouTube, Netflix, Spotify, etc.). That means that each TEDx talk should have SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) elements added to the video, i.e. key words and combinations of them.

? Sadly, at the moment, about 99% of TEDx videos don't use any SEO elements. It is crucial to have two aims here:

?? The first aim of the TEDx SEO elements embedded in your TEDx video is to reach millions of people around the world who never heard your name but are interested in your topic

?? The second aim of the TEDx SEO elements is to get the snow ball effect rolling so the views increase over the years (long term effect)

? Having only SEO on your TEDx talk will get you few thousand views but won't help you go viral by itself.

That snow ball needs to be created first before it starts rolling. How to create it? Use all your networks. Hence the last aim is

?? The aim of your Network Strategies - to gain the first few thousands views and start the snow ball effect which then is picked up by the TEDx SEO elements.

Now you know the 9 aims of the different TEDx talk elements and journey itself. Check the results each will give you and decide if you want to have such aim for your own TEDx talk or not.

I personally believe that TEDx speakers should aim all 9 of them. After all, you will invest all your time and efforts in creating a powerful legacy but

Whats the point of doing a TEDx talk if no one ever finds it ?

Don't just do half of the job by becoming a TEDx speaker.

Do the other half too - make your talk visible to the world
