What is the AI Salon?

WHO WE ARE

The AI Salon is a ragtag group of misfits, ne'er-do-wells, and miscreants who have gathered to explore the uncharted wilderness of Generative AI. We are everyone - from entrepreneurs to educators, from healthcare workers to creatives, and everyone in between.

WHY WE ARE HERE

We are being called on an adventure. Just like the WWW exploded onto the scene in the mid-90’s, the launch of ChatGPT on November 30, 2022 shook the world. We felt the rumble. We heeded the call, and set out together to discover the source.

HOW WE EXPLORE

We band together online and in-person to share our discoveries so that we might aid our fellow adventurers. In these gatherings, we geek out, explore, and learn together, paving the way for innovative ideas and groundbreaking projects in the vast frontier that lies ahead.?

Together, we shape a vision and create a future that embraces the unknown and leads us to exceptional experiences.

• GENEROSITY: We are willing to share our knowledge, resources, and feedback with others, and to support each other's growth and development. There is so much to learn, we can't possibly keep up. Even if it's obvious to you, it might not be to the person next to you. Share as you learn!
• EXPLORATION: We are excited to try new things, take risks, and embrace uncertainty & ambiguity. Act as if no one knows what they are doing... because no one knows what they are doing.
• COLLABORATION: We look for opportunities to work with others, to exchange ideas, and to create something greater than ourselves. Find a partner or a posse. Start a project. Start 10. We won't judge you, and who knows, you just might make a friend, or the next $1Billion venture.
• INCLUSION: We actively seek out and value diverse perspectives and experiences, recognizing that our differences make us stronger. We create an environment where everyone feels seen, heard, and respected, and where everyone has an equal opportunity to contribute and succeed.
• EMPATHY: We are mindful of the impact of our work on others, and we strive to create work that is respectful, inclusive, and meaningful. AI is one of the most transformative technological advances in humanity. Humans matter. Take each other in. Act from a place of compassion.

We believe that 2023 is a pivotal year for AI, just like 1995 was for the Internet. Back then, the World Wide Web made the Internet accessible to everyone, not just scientists and engineers. It opened up a whole new world of information, communication, and creativity.

Similarly, today, generative image models and ChatGPT have made AI accessible to everyone, not just experts and researchers. They have opened up a whole new world of art, expression, and interaction. One key difference between then and now is the speed of innovation. 2023 is already (mid-February) a torrent of new and exciting, face-melting AI announcements and launches... and things are accelerating!
