What affects has COVID-19 had on the Thick Film Resistor Market?

We’re committed to keeping TTI customers informed on the availability of key components in the wake of the current COVID-19 situation. This update is focused on the availability and lead times for Commercial Surface Mount Thick Film Resistor Chips.

Lead times for thick film resistor chips have extended and currently range anywhere from 15 to 30 weeks depending on the supplier. To mitigate these lead time extensions, TTI has negotiated reserved increased capacity with KOA and Yageo and has increased our available-to-sell inventory position with Vishay and Panasonic.

  • KOA is maintaining a stable lead time on average of 15 weeks. To offset potential market supply issues, TTI has negotiated capacity reservation with KOA based on historical demand and anticipated future increased market requirements. The impact of COVID-19 on KOA has been minimized as production was diverted from their Malaysian facility to alternate manufacturing locations. TTI continues to have the most available to sell inventory in the channel. 
  • Vishay CRCW lead times have extended to 18 weeks due to a planned yearly shutdown of their manufacturing facility in Israel, unrelated to COVID-19. Vishay’s lead times are expected to drop back to 15–16 weeks by the end of Q2. 
  • Yageo lead times are averaging 30 weeks. TTI continues to work closely with Yageo to expedite deliveries. Yageo’s manufacturing facility in China is working through the backlog created by the coronavirus-related shutdown and staffing complications. Yageo expects to ship the majority of the TTI backlog by the end of Q2.  
  • Panasonic lead times are averaging 16 weeks. TTI is well-positioned in Panasonic thick film resistors.
