Port Klang is the largest port of Malaysia in Southeast Asia, located in the northeastern?of the Straits of Malacca. It is the maritime gateway to Malaysia and the largest port in the country, located on the west coast of the Malay Peninsula, about 6 kilometers southwest of Klang City and about 38 kilometers southwest of the capital Kuala Lumpur. Port Klang consists of West Port Terminal, North Port Terminal and Southpoint Terminal. With 8.4 km?of berths and over 187 hectares of yard space, the West Port handles the majority of Port Klang's international transshipment cargo. The North Port serves the local market and is an important gateway for imports and exports to and from ASEAN countries in the region. The two major terminals?have each played their part in gradually developing Port Klang into a major shipping hub that rivals the Port of Singapore. However, as the cargo throughput of Port Klang has been increasing year by year, its handling capacity is also becoming saturated. The West Port has a total of 30 berths and is 8.4 km?long. Of these, 24 berths are connected on a 6.6 km straight line, providing the maximum available quay length for moored ships. The terminal container yard covers 187.1 hectares, providing sufficient space for container storage and pick-up.
The North Port is an important gateway for the import and export trade of ASEAN countries. The North Port has services to 15 major ports in ASEAN countries and operates 24 weekly sailings to various ports including Bangkok, Jakarta, Brunei and Manila.
Port Klang is the largest container port in Malaysia and one of the busiest container ports in the world, with an annual throughput of 235.34 million tons in 2022, ranking 28th in the world.
