What is an ADC (Application Delivery Controller)

#adc #f5 #bigIP An ADC (Application Delivery Controller) is a device that manages the delivery of applications and services.

An ADC has the following abilities:

  1. Direct or redirect specific requests to the appropriate resource(s)
  2. Intercept, inspect, and/or transform requests and/or responses.
  3. Verify the health of backend servers.

A few types of applications that an ADC can manage the delivery of are HTTP, HTTPS, and DNS.

One of the benefits of ADC is that it balances load across multiple resources in the background.

An example of an ADC is F5's BIG-IP appliance.
