In conversations about success - whether it’s in business, sports, entertainment, or personal development, the term “mindset” is often mentioned. But what does mindset actually mean, and how important is it in achieving the life and goals you desire?
At its core, mindset refers to the collection of beliefs, attitudes, and thoughts that shape your perception of the world and your approach to challenges. Your mindset acts as a lens through which you view everything, influencing your reactions, decisions, and, ultimately, your results.
The Power of Mindset: Success or Failure?
Is your mindset aligned for success or failure? This question is critical because your mindset can either propel you forward or hold you back. A mindset aligned with success leads you to seize opportunities, persist through challenges, and remain resilient in the face of setbacks. Conversely, a mindset aligned with failure can cause you to shy away from challenges, see obstacles as insurmountable, and give up easily when things don’t go as planned.
Mindset’s Role in Blocking or Achieving Goals:
Imagine you’ve set a goal to double your business revenue. You have the strategy, resources, and skills to achieve it, yet something holds you back from taking the necessary actions. This is where your mindset plays a pivotal role. If deep down, you believe you’re not capable of handling success or you fear failure, your mindset will sabotage your efforts, whether consciously or subconsciously.
Conscious vs. Subconscious Mind: The Real Battle
Understanding the difference between the conscious and subconscious mind is crucial to unlocking the full power of your mindset.
- Conscious Mind: This is the part of your mind responsible for your current thoughts and decisions. When you consciously set a goal, like "I want to increase my income by 20% this year," that decision is made by your conscious mind.
- Subconscious Mind: This is the hidden powerhouse that controls your habits, beliefs, and emotions. It’s the part of your mind that stores all your past experiences, deeply held beliefs, and automatic responses. While your conscious mind is aware of your goals, your subconscious mind is running on programming that may be years, even decades, old.
The Subconscious Belief System (BS): Is It Time to Update Your Programming?
Your subconscious mind operates based on a belief system (BS) formed during your early years, influenced by your environment, experiences, and the teachings of parents, teachers, and society. This belief system controls your daily actions and decisions. If your subconscious BS is outdated, it could be running a programme that no longer serves you, like a belief that you’re not good enough to achieve your success or that failure is something to be feared.
Why Knowing What You Want Isn’t Always Enough:
You might consciously know that you want to achieve certain goals, but if your subconscious belief system is programmed with limiting beliefs, those deep-seated beliefs will override your conscious intentions. For example, you might want to grow your business, but if your subconscious mind believes that success will lead to stress or failure, it will create barriers that prevent you from taking the necessary steps to achieve your goals.
How to Get Clarity and Align Your Mindset for Success
If you’re unsure whether your mindset is helping or hindering you, here are some tips to gain clarity:
1. Self-Reflection: Start by reflecting on your current beliefs about success, failure, money, and your own capabilities. Are these beliefs empowering or limiting?
2. Identify Limiting Beliefs: Write down any negative thoughts or doubts that come up when you think about your goals. These are often clues to the limiting beliefs stored in your subconscious mind.
3. Challenge and Reframe: Once you've identified a limiting belief, challenge it. Ask yourself, "Is this really true?" and then reframe it into a positive, empowering belief.
4. Visualisation and Affirmations: Use visualisation and affirmations to reprogramme your subconscious mind. Visualise yourself achieving your goals and repeat positive affirmations daily to reinforce new, empowering beliefs.
5. Consistent Action: Take small, consistent actions that align with your new beliefs. As you begin to see progress, your subconscious mind will start to accept these new beliefs as true.

The Believe + Action = Achieve Framework
To help you realign your mindset and achieve your goals, I’ve developed the Believe + Action = Achieve Framework. This framework is designed to help you:
- Believe: Cultivate a mindset that aligns with your goals by identifying and shifting limiting beliefs, using affirmations, and reinforcing positive self-talk.
- Action: Take deliberate and consistent actions that align with your new beliefs. This reinforces your new mindset and helps you build momentum towards your goals.
- Achieve: When your beliefs and actions are in harmony, you create the conditions necessary for success. The results you achieve will reflect the new mindset you’ve cultivated.
Why Your Current Confidence and Self-Belief Might Be Holding You Back
One of the biggest obstacles to achieving your goals is a lack of confidence and self-belief. If you don’t truly believe that you’re capable of success, your actions will reflect that doubt. You might procrastinate, avoid taking risks, or settle for less than you deserve. This is why developing a strong, confident mindset is crucial for achieving your goals.
Is It Time to Update Your Mindset?
If you’re not achieving the results you want, it’s time to evaluate your mindset. Is your subconscious belief system aligned with your goals, or is it holding you back? Updating your mindset isn’t just about thinking positively; it’s about reprogramming and updating your subconscious mind to support your conscious desires.
