What is Acid Wash finish?

To make acid wash, we usually uses acidic liquid to rinsing the stone surface. The major composition of the acidic liquid is formic acid, glacial acid and acid sodium. It can etch the stone according to the acid percentage in the rinse. It also depends on type of stone. The granite, basalt, porphyry or lava won’t react with acid while limestone and marble can have a uneven surface easily . This finish can take the shine of polished stone into a honed finish. The surface won’t be not smooth. So it is also a anti-slip finish for exterior.

The regular time of acid wash is around half hour. The longer time(like one hour or more) with more acidic liquid can bring deeper finish on the stone.
