This is how many seconds we have every day. Everyone has the same number to work with.
When I ask people how they are doing, I frequently am told, “I am so busy.” My most common response is, “What is keeping you so busy?”
The most common answers are all the things I need to do, working and taking care of the kids, this big project I am working on, and the amount of work I need to get accomplished.
I will go deep into questions if I am coaching them. I will ask something like, “Tell me about the big project you are working on.” I will let them tell me. Then I will ask if they have broken the project down into smaller manageable pieces and determined what they need to do each day to get the project completed. I have found when you break work down into smaller pieces it becomes more manageable and easier to accomplish.?
What is busy? The Webster’s Dictionary definition of busy is engaged in activity, as work; occupied.?Everyone is engaged in an activity. The question becomes what activities are you engaged in?
Are you using your 86,400 seconds effectively? Are you getting the most important activities and tasks done each day?
One thing that I have found frustrating is when something important needs to be done and someone says, “I didn’t have time to do that.”?
A mindset shift needs to happen. What happened is the person didn’t take the time to do the task or activity.
We all have the same amount of time each day. It is how we prioritize and use that time that ensures the most important things get accomplished.
One of the easiest time priority management pieces to do is to ask yourself this question, “What is the most important thing I can do right now?” Then take the time to think about it and do it.?
Not accomplishing an important task or activity can be the fault of the person asking. As they say, when you point you have three fingers pointing back at you.? It is on the shoulders of the person asking to set the right expectations. They need to let the person know the importance of the task or activity they are being given.?
This is one of the fundamentals of delegating. Set the proper expectations with the person you are delegating the task or activity to.?
What is the most important thing you can do right now? Get it done.
