What 5 Things Employees Absolutely HATE About Their Boss

What 5 Things Employees Absolutely HATE About Their Boss

Yes, we all know by now that most talents do not leave their jobs because they don’t like the nature of their position but because of their manager’s unacceptable behavior. Below, we give you five of the most common reasons an employee would sail away, in search of a boss that is more to their liking.

1.     Not showing their human face – Whether it is in regards lunchtime, family leaves, sick breaks or higher education, demonstrating inflexibility makes them (employees) furious. This applies to when they are ill or called to deal with something as grievous as the loss of a loved one. Being inconsiderate and not caring about them as a person is a penalty in employees’ mind.

2.     Being unappreciative of their hard work – If they give their all and get no emotional reward in exchange, they lose interest in working for that specific company.

3.     Not respecting their personal time – Being asked to work until late at night or even during their weekends, or even worse, expecting them to interrupt their family time or holiday to go back to work is simply intolerable.

4.     Being partial – When working for someone that is always trying to hold others accountable for any mistakes made in the company and not having their team’s back, the frustration is deep.

5.     Micromanaging employees – Talents need to feel free to put their critical thinking skills forward and do the job they have been hired to do the way they know best. Lack of trust and continuously monitoring their every move is nerve-wracking.

What is Causing all these Problems?

When trying to heal a disease, the doctor tries to find the root of the problem and strike there with proper medications or surgical procedures. Otherwise, he will only be curing the symptoms, instead of the real cause.

Likewise, some employees hate their bosses for the reasons mentioned above. But, what has made managers forget how to lead? How come many of them have found their purpose in pulling people down when their actual role has always been to build them up?

The sad truth is that our system focuses heavily on satisfying shareholders at all costs, without paying attention to the human factor. This puts managers in a position where they feel they must compete against those in the lower ranks when they should be feeling comfortable about who they are. The core idea is wrong and affects the entire organization.

“A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.”
(John C. Maxwell)

Breathing Life in a Decaying Situation

Showing that you genuinely care about the people that work for you can get you far; intimidating and threatening them won’t. Have their back, and rest assured they will have yours. Treat them with respect and make them feel that their wellbeing is a big concern of yours. And, if you want them to be loyal to you and the organization, you have to give loyalty to them first. This is a two-way street. Value them, and they will surely return the favor. Bottom line, if you want to be a great leader surrounded by loyal employees, treat your teams well!
