What Are 4 Ways You Can Relax Before An Interview ?

It’s an understandable factor that you get intimidated and feel nervous before an interview. However, there are ways you can manage the fear. This is also called Interview Anxiety. Interview Anxiety is the felling of nervousness, stress or fear that people have before an interview. There are stress hormones being released such as cortisol, adrenaline or norepinephrine from your body to protect you from this unpleasant situation.

These hormones result in physiological changes physically, behaviourally, cognitively and emotionally. Physical changes are trembling, shaking, and nausea, behavioural changes are fidgeting, pacing and fumbling with words. Cognitive changes are mind going blank, difficulty focusing and emotional changes are such as feeling nervous and afraid.

  1. Practicing self-care: Are you taking care of your body ? Taking care of your body will go a long way and i will help you to release the nervous energy and remain calm. Keeping yourself in good health is of paramount importance during situations of difficulty. It’s recommended to get enough sleep, and exercise regularly.
  2. Visualisation of success: Go to a quiet space, close your eyes and visualize you being successful at your interview; because, sometimes the negative thoughts that run in your mind may make you nervous. Therefore, be positive at all times and visualize all positive aspects. This is a method used by elite athletes before competitions to improve their performance.
  3. Conduct your research: This is the biggest stress reliever. The research you conduct on not only the company but also on the latest industry trends and the position you are applying for, is absolutely crucial. Your research will help you brim in confidence.
  4. Avoiding stressors: Being extremely concerned about your dress code, punctuality will help you calm your nerves. Also, preparing beforehand with the location, technicalities, traffic conditions (if you have to travel) is absolutely crucial. All these precautions will keep you calm.

It is normal to feel jitters before an interview; however, the most important factor is that you acknowledge them and prepare for the interview accordingly. It’s a lot of work that you have to put in to prepare for an interview. Do not take it for granted; because if you do so, the post-interview trauma would be tough to handle.
