Leadership has changed by leaps and bounds over the years. The leadership styles we had 30-40 years ago are now outdated and we are living in a more inclusive world where leaders require more humane skills to spearhead organizations at a global a scale. The focus should be on becoming a human before becoming a leader.
The improper or inappropriate styles of leadership can bring a negative impact on the employees and ultimately it will become the biggest threat to employee retention. The world is a place where people prefer to be open-minded and therefore, team members expect the leadership to create an environment where they are psychologically safe; an environment where employees can speak up. People like to be heard. Especially, in a context where remote working, hybrid working models are in place; it’s really essential that leaders think anew and adapt to the current leadership trends and serve organisations.
When you are an executive or leader, you should be able to put things in perspective. This is absolutely crucial. Understanding your gifts and weaknesses is vital when you are a leader. The clear differentiation of understanding what you can do and cannot do is essential and there is nothing wrong in getting support from someone. As a leader, you may have faced instances where you have felt ashamed of yourself. It’s actually good that it happens; because then you get an opportunity to deep dive into the reason in which caused that shame. Once it is analysed and looked into, you will have an understanding about the wounds that need healing. Thereafter, you will gradually aspire to heal the wounds and find satisfaction and joy. An an executive (leader), it’s recommended that you come out of the struggle and acknowledge how these gifts ca be utilised.
How important is focus as a leader ? I reckon, it’s the most essential trait a leader should possess. There is a famous saying, focus on you until the focus is on you. There are three words that an executive (leader) should focus on. This is solely related to humanity.
