What 1,230 Entrepreneurs Wish They’d Done Sooner

What 1,230 Entrepreneurs Wish They’d Done Sooner

Over the last two decades I’ve interviewed over 1,230 amazing humans on my podcasts about monetizing their business superpower. Ultimately my goal as a host on Amplify Your Success Podcast is to uncover what’s worked to become a recognized, profitable authority in their industry so that my community can tap into my guest's wisdom.

The last few years, towards the end of my podcast interview with each guest, I ask this one question:

What’s one thing you wished you would have done sooner, because now you recognize how much it would positively impact your success?

Here are the five most common answers (their answers might be exactly what you need to hear today.)

#1. Hiring Help

At least 40% of my guests believe that they waited too long to hire their first virtual assistant or employee. Recognizing that the fear of not being able to afford help was a strong deterrent at first. Some suggested that their mentors helped them get past the fear. Others knew that growth was stalled as they had become a bottleneck.?

Ultimately, the proof was in the “pudding” as the saying goes. Once they took the leap of faith and hired help, these successful entrepreneurs were able to gain momentum and spend more time in their own superpowers.

Lesson: Running a successful business requires a lot of different skills. If you want to continue to grow, there will be a point where you must hire help to grow beyond what only you can do well.

#2. Investing in Mentorship

Over 55% of the people I interviewed have identified that investing in a coach or mentor was the biggest game changer in their business. A few of my guests even spelled out that making this decision for mentorship was scary at the time, but making the bold leap of faith to invest a significant amount of money paid off exponentially.

Getting clarity on what to do is helpful, but it was having someone to bounce ideas off of or to point them in the right direction when the business was troubled that was worth every penny.

Lesson: It’s tempting to figure things out on your own but the cost of “limping along” far outweighs the price tag of investing in a quality mentor. Saving time, speeding up results and accessing wisdom are pure gold when you want to achieve new results, faster.

#3. Learning How to Sell

In the early days of owning my own business, many of my mentors pointed out that I would need to learn how to market and sell effectively.

Every time I heard that advice I shut down. I didn’t want to sell. I wanted to provide transformation! Fast-forward to when I first broke through to six figures – the missing link had been better marketing and mastering sales.

The 3rd most common “what I wish I’d done sooner” answer from guests on my show has been “I wish I would have mastered selling (or marketing.)” Often they reveal that even though it's not their favorite business activity, building up the muscle gave them a significant advantage in the market – and allowed them to provide more transformation because they had more clients!

Lesson: Mastering the money-producing skills will accelerate the path to doing more of what you crave. Even if you need to invest in training and guidance, every entrepreneur needs to know how to attract clients and enroll them.

#4. Fostering a Growth Mindset

90% of the guests I’ve interviewed in some way identified their “inner work” as an essential factor for the success of their business. Bold action, risk taking, developing resilience and finding the learnings inside failure were all areas they needed to “grow” in order to succeed.

A surprising confession from a few guests had to do with being willing to be more visible, despite internal conflict or feeling like an imposter. This admission actually fueled my resolve to provide guidance and proven strategies to transform aligned visibility into profits in my $100k Authority Accelerator program.

Lesson: Our thoughts, beliefs and paradigm of possibility deeply influence an entrepreneur's ability to take the action required to succeed at higher levels. Prioritizing strengthening the inner game has a big impact on confidence and decision making.?

#5. Developing Community

In my own journey, my community has had a huge impact on my success. Almost every guest expert I interviewed shared this experience – and discovered that the old adage, “who you surround yourself with influences your success” to be true.

Who we network with, mastermind with and share our hopes and dreams with becomes our rising tide. If we want to reach new heights, investing in a community that shares a common vision and goals lifts an entrepreneur up, sometimes from the momentum alone. Not only will the right community act like a catalyst, you’ll build connections with people who open doors to new opportunities.

Lesson: surrounding yourself with people who “get you” and believe in you can speed up the path to success. Be willing to invest in aligned masterminds, programs and events to access accountability (as well as lifelong friendships.)

If someone asked me this same question, I'd probably give all five of these answers myself. Each of these factors has had a huge influence over my own success -- and kept me in the game since 2000.

Now let's turn the question to you...

What would you add to this list of “What I Wish I Would Have Done Sooner?”
