What 12,000 employees have to say about the future of remote work

This is a fascinating and very in depth analysis by the Boston Consulting Group on what employees felt about working from home at the height of the pandemic. https://on.bcg.com/2Ge7zSw

From my own experiences I have seen improved productivity as employees have moved to remote working. However as the survey highlights there can be challenges when it comes to working on collaborative tasks in a remote environment.

The Boston Consulting Group looked at four factors that impact successful work collaboration – social connectivity, mental health, physical health and workplace tools. When satisfied/ happy with these factors employees report improvements in productivity and working collaboratively. However, if employees have issues then productivity and collaboration suffers.

As we look to make remote working more permanent or even adopt a more hybrid work environment – monitoring all aspects of social connectivity, mental health etc will be essential in order to maintain employee well-being. This is particularly important for new hires and employees who haven’t worked for a company long, as they won’t have the establish connections the rest of the organization may have.

One thing that I found invaluable about this article, and was one of the reasons why I was keen to share it, were the questions managers need to consider as they work with their teams – whether they are onsite, remote or a combination of the two. These questions encourage managers to think in depth about the impact new working practices and environments can have on the mental well-being of employees.

They act as a good reference point and could prove invaluable as we all make future changes to our working practices.  https://on.bcg.com/2Ge7zSw
