#229: What 10 Things Are You Most Grateful For?

Introduction

Today, on the "People Skills" newsletter, we're looking at some of the things which we take for granted in our lives but which should be better appreciated.

It's "What 10 Things Are You Grateful For?".

People who are alive today are probably the most blessed people that have ever lived.

Unlike our ancestors at any point in human history, our lives are less arduous and challenging than ever.

Which is why, instead of complaining about what's going wrong with the world, we should celebrate the things that we have in our lives and which, to our forebears, would have been seen as truly wondrous.

So, here is a list of 10 things to be grateful for from Empowered Presentations...

01. A Day of Thanksgiving

In the United States, Thanksgiving Day is a day we spend with family and friends, reflecting on the things we are all grateful for but it can turn into a day of us stuffing our faces with food and watching football instead of remembering our blessings...

02. Don't Take Your Blessings for Granted

Sometimes we don't know what we take for granted until they are gone. It's good to be reminded of all our blessings! In case, like us, you've forgotten the small things to be thankful for, here's a start...

03. #01. Sunshine

Sunlight helps your body produce vitamin D. It also protects against various diseases like osteoporosis, diabetes, rickets, and some cancers...

04. #02. Search Engines

Google estimates over 1 trillion searches per year! Anything you want to know, you can ask and will usually get an accurate answer! Now, all the information in the world is at your fingertips!...

05. #03. Air Travel

In the 1830's, it took about 4 weeks to get from New York to California by train. Now, you can get there in 4 hours 47 minutes. Forget "Around the World in 80 Days". You can now do it in little over a day!

06. #04. Nature

"The more often we see the things around us - even the beautiful and wonderful things - the more they become invisible to us. That is why we often take for granted the beauty of this world: the flowers, the trees, the birds, the clouds - even those we love. Because we see things so often, we see them less and less." (Joseph B. Wirthlin)

07. #05. Email Text

For anyone born before the mid-90's, remember having to use pay phones or beepers to communicate? Thank goodness for faster technology. Now, we can send off messages via our computers, phones, or even our watches.

08. #06. Mobile Phones

Once upon a time, people used to own cameras, music players, landline phones, video players, and notebooks. Now, you can have it all in one device.

09.#07. Garbage Collection

The average person generates 4.3 pounds of waste per day! Thank goodness for the hardworking sanitation workers who keep our streets and homes clean.

10. #08. Thumbs

Often not given a second thought, opposable thumbs are vital to our ability to function!

11. #09. Running Water

Not so long ago, people had to fetch their water and use the restroom outside. Thank goodness for indoor plumbing!

12. #10. Freedom

Thousands of refugees are forced to flee their homes due to oppression and war. Freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and the freedom to pursue happiness is not available to all people.

What Next?

Now that you've looked at the 10 things that Empowered Presentations are grateful for, why not choose what your top 10 list would be.

For us, we would certainly put the following on our list.

The Internet and, in particular, e-learning, followed by TV, followed by being able to speak to customers all round the world wherever they are.

But, at the top of our list, we would have to say that we are most grateful for being able to run a successful business with 6 websites, over 22,000 learning resources, and 37 published e-books on soft skills.

We pinch ourselves every day and thank the many people, known and unknown, who have made it happen for us.
