Whale Tail No 3

I went paddling this weekend with high #expectations. Remember: week 1 was a #whale tail less than 2 metres away from me; week 2 was a whale breaching and blowing fairly close. What aquatic vision would week 3 bring? From a whale point of view, zilch.
However, rather than feeling let down by nature, and missing my weekly business edification and enjoyment, we had a large pod of #dolphins near us. As we left the beach, they were swimming out past the point with the younger ones jumping right out of the water and having fun. On our return from The Joey, we were doing V sets to catch some of the runners. Then we saw the pod heading towards us. We stopped paddling and just drifted. The pods (they had split into two groups) swam straight at us. The second pod swam no more than 3 feet away, with the younger ones still jumping out of the water - very close.
It made me think. I had gone out with high expectations BUT it was something I could not control (yes possibly I had some #influence but definitely no control). So if my measure of success was interaction with whales, the paddle would have been a failure. However, by being open to other opportunities, ie the dolphins, I had a great return.
So the lesson from this is to be aware of what you can control and work towards success. BUT always be aware of other opportunities which can give unexpected returns. Do as much as you can to influence but do not be so focused on your plan that you miss other benefits.
Everything is a learning experience.
