WHAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSUP!!! How Budweiser Gained $20 Million Worth Free Publicity
WHAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSUP - This is exactly how every young man in the USA would answer their phone in the early 2000s, wanna know the reason??
"BUDWEISER"
Well you see, in the early 2000s the internet wasn't the most lucrative way to grab people's attention, so Budweiser came up with something different, which caught the attention of their target audience, which hooked them onto picking up the phone and saying - whassssssssssssuuuupppp.??
Budweiser launched the campaign in 1999 but it was more like the launch of the "Whassup Generation", their sales grew by 2.4 million barrels and it was estimated that Whassup had generated $20 million in free publicity, based on the number of times the phrase appeared in TV news features and newspaper articles.?
So how did they come up with it? And what did they do to make it stand out??
The campaign was inspired by a short film called "True” and they then expanded the catchphrase "Whassup" into multiple short scenes and paired it with the response "Watchin' the game, havin' a Bud."??

The reason why it became a hit was because Budweiser knew its target audience: young men in their 20s and 30s, which was a significant consumer group for beer and created the ad in such a way that it showed camaraderie and male bonding, as it gave young men a sense of togetherness.?
They aimed to develop commercials that people would talk about at work, parties, and gatherings, thereby becoming part of the public consciousness, and they achieved exactly that, if not more as it has become a part of pop culture.
Wrapping up with "What's Unique Today?"
Well, to all the founders out there, this teaches us the significance of understanding what our target audience is and the importance of the emotions and humour of our audience.
