WFH Woahs

No I did not mean woes, I'm talking positivity.
A lot of people are being asked to work from home amid the CORVID-19 crisis. With tension in the air and uncertainty of when we will all be collaborating in person again, it is vital to stay positive, focused, and vigilant. And the company I am working for, Drift, is doing just that.
From the beginning of this week to now, I have experienced a lot of positive and negative feelings about working from home. If you are feeling a bit lonesome (thanks Matt for the article) it is totally normal. We are not used to it however, this is an opportunity to show how great we can work together and overcome this period in time. I wanted to share my WFH Woahs - a few things I have noticed this week and past wfh positions that hopefully makes wfh a bit easier for anyone reading this.
First step, look at this as an opportunity on all fronts of your business:
- This is a good test for companies just adopting WFH policies to see how effective their teams can be when remote.
- Your employees are grateful - A Stanford University study states, employers who offered a work from home option had employee turnover rates fall by over 50%.
- This is an opportunity to get to know your co-workers on a deeper level. By working from home, co-workers set up video calls and therefore get a sneak peek into each others' lives outside of work. From the decor of their home, their children, or their pet, it makes everyone connect on a deeper level. Shoutout to Drift's Marketing team's meeting yesterday! ??
Stay Focused - Listen to your body:
- If you need to get up off of your comfy bed or if you feel like your couch is starting to consume you, get up and go for a quick walk. If it is freezing out, take a lap in your house. Getting the blood flowing will help you stay focused.
- There are statistics that wfh can increase focus - According to Owl Labs, "The top reasons remote workers choose to work remotely include: better work-life balance (91%), increased productivity/better focus (79%), less stress (78%) and avoiding a commute (78%)". To get that focus, you need to find your rhythm, your new routine, and your golden.
Vigilant over Stagnant
- Because times are not normal and we are all adjusting to this work from home lifestyle, it is important to stay vigilant. Wherever you go be sure to be aware of your surroundings. This does not mean stay stagnant and not leave your house, otherwise you will go stir-crazy. Let yourself have fun, but be safe while doing so.
