The Current Challenge: Global Instability

The past few years have not been easy ones for the world. After experiencing a decade of relative normalcy, we were hit with a pandemic that set a chain reaction of events in motion. Our current global economy is experiencing an unsettling volatility. Stock markets are undergoing a correction, and interest rates and energy prices are rising. Global superpowers, some which are still reeling from the effects of the pandemic, are not wholly back to full capacity. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is threatening the stability of the region, creating new supply chain challenges around the world and hurting the confidence of PSPs in Eastern and Central Europe.

This ongoing uncertainty of the past three years is changing the way consumers do business. We see consumer trends shifting in this climate of disruption to shorter run times, personalization and sustainability. I believe, however, that –

Disruption is an opportunity for the digital print industry.

These changing trends really are an opportunity for digital printing to shape the future of our print industry’s business models, helping to create supply chain resilience; custom brand protection solutions; value-add through versioning, variable data, and embellishment; labor reduction through automation; and sustainability though waste reduction.

I want to offer a closer look at how we fight volatility with efficient versatility.

Disruption is an Opportunity

In a Quocirca survey tracking the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, 77% of print suppliers viewed crisis as an opportunity for innovation. In addition, when we conducted an internal study of PSP’s, we found that a certain percentage were not only resilient to the pandemic’s effects, but also grew – even doubling their volume during these turbulent times.

Our most successful customers were those that took advantage of the exclusive capabilities of the Indigo presses managed by Print OS, which through cloud computing and remote operation management increased uptime and productivity. PSPs were also more likely to grow when their basket of services included enhanced capabilities, such as unique inks and the ability to print on synthetics and special media.

Growth, especially in difficult times, comes from creating value and leveraging advantages that deliver high coverage, increase overall speed and quality, integrate workflow automation and advance the ability to print on a wide variety of substrates. ?

To future-proof the business, and that of our partners and customers, adaptability and agility must continue to be key components of our technological innovation and business strategies.

Create, Don’t Compete

One of the pillars of our growth strategy is we believe in helping our customers create new types of print output and value instead of competing over pricing.

Market leadership goes beyond digital-to-digital competition, and our vision has always been to create something new in the market. Released just two years ago, our flagship commercial HP Indigo 100K ?is achieving a 60% productivity gain and a significant increase in job run lengths –?demonstrating that our customers are using this press for new products and are shifting volume from offset to digital as they drive efficiencies and create new markets.

So far, our strategy is yielding results. Our customers are growing faster than ever – outpacing market growth across the board and producing more pages than ever before.

HP Indigo customers grew 6 times faster than the market, and we recently celebrated a new A4 inkjet page volume record: 750B printed pages (cumulative)

This is how HP Industrial Print continues to steer and unleash the potential of the industrial print industry – by mobilizing agile supply chains with less inventory and faster response times.

Our Portfolio: We’ve Got You Covered

With our strongest and most unique HP Industrial Print portfolio to date, HP is helping small, medium and large businesses thrive even in the middle of the global challenges we are facing together.

We offer a full portfolio of workflow and finishing solutions, as well as technical ramp and business development services to enable our customers to meet their unique value propositions in the market. We offer the only commercial platform with a complete portfolio of B2 presses and with the launch of the new PageWide presses tailored to enhance agility and versatility, we are driving solutions with efficiency.

This year, we had two major launches accelerating the shift from analog to digital printing, both aimed at giving print providers the flexibility to never have to say no to taking any print job: the highly anticipated HP Indigo V12 Digital Label Press and the HP PageWide Advantage 2200 Press – delivering unparalleled productivity, versatility, modularity and quality to the market. ?With the new brilliant ink and smaller footprint, the A2200 is tailored for high-speed continuous feed commercial production in publishing, commercial print and direct mail. Strong early indications are that the productivity and output quality of this press will accelerate the shift from offset to inkjet document printing.

The V12 is our next-generation label press, based on our LEPx technology. This press is at the forefront of innovative digital print and will continue to transform the market with its 4-5X greater speed and efficiency, accelerating the growth of the Labels & Packaging industry.
