We've crunched the 2022 numbers: 21 million futures transformed with reproductive choice

MSI was proud to expand choice across the globe last year

With reproductive choice, women and girls are more likely to remain in education, achieve financial independence and drive positive change in their communities. So, as awareness of reproductive health and rights continues to grow globally, it’s no surprise that we’ve seen unprecedented demand for our services.??

Last year, we partnered with governments and civil society to?deliver reproductive choice to?82,000 people every single day. Over the year, that meant 14.6 million unintended pregnancies and 7.2 million unsafe abortions averted. And 42,600 women and girls’ lives saved.?

In partnership

In 2022,?MSI partnered with governments in 24 countries?to strengthen reproductive healthcare. Working hand in hand with local governments, we supported public sector providers to deliver high-quality and locally-led reproductive healthcare to over 6 million clients.?Our work to shape health systems?now will transform access for decades to come. ???

“Since we started partnering with MSI Uganda, they trained me, and I became confident in offering long-term methods of family planning.” – Annet, a public sector midwife in Uganda?

Advocating for choice

Despite the reversal of Roe v. Wade in the US, MSI’s advocacy teams and grassroots partners remained resilient, making significant progress.?We contributed to 13 high impact policy and legal changes?to expand reproductive health and rights—like securing a successful UK parliamentary vote to make telemedicine for medical abortion?permanent. And helping make prescribed medical abortion pills?in Ethiopia available at pharmacies. ???

Providing abortion

We provided?abortion and life-saving post-abortion care to 4.7 million clients?last year.

A client’s choice of where, how, and when they access care is a priority for MSI. Some clients chose at-home abortion with medical abortion pills, while others chose between medical or surgical abortion at our centres.

“I made the decision to continue with my personal life, I have other plans, I want to continue doing more things, I am not ready to have a child yet, I want to finish my degree, I want time for myself.” – Abortion client with MSI Mexico, 26

Read our?2022 Impact Brief?for a snapshot of what’s been made possible with partnership and investment in sexual and reproductive health and rights, and how?our donors, partners and local teams transformed the futures of 21 million people last year.?

To be part of creating this global impact for women and girls, we invite you to join us in?partnership?and with?donations?as we strive to deliver even more in 2023.?
