We've Crossed The Red Line
Obviously the line was crossed on October 7th, but I'm talking about how dangerous this ongoing clash of ideologies is for the Jews of America.
Fights in the cafeteria, petitions in mails: the war has reached Silicon Valley (you need to be subscribed to YNET+ and able to read Hebrew to access this ....)
"Demonstrations outside the offices, expressions of hate in the internal messaging platforms, fights in cafeterias and anger between teams. The war in Gaza is also shaking up Silicon Valley: the clashes between pro-Israel and pro-Hamas workers are causing unprecedented tensions within the high-tech giants. Employees at Amazon celebrated the "Day of Solidarity with the Palestinians" with pride, employees at Microsoft accused colleagues who identified with Israel of "encouraging genocide", and an investigation published by Fox claims that employees at TikTok take pride in posting anti-Israel content. Meanwhile, 亚马逊 refrains from referring to or calling for the release of the company's employee, who was kidnapped in Gaza."
My Commentary
It's no secret it's gotten tougher to be an American Jew lately, and this has nothing to do with the recent events of the past months. They hid it really well, but now it's all out in the open. A good example is how Matthew Campbell had to explain to his non-Jewish friends why Jews never get the location of an event until right before it happens - for security reasons ....
My Message for the Jews
At the moment we have a general global clash of forces, but what I'm writing is specifically directed at the Jews of America. This problem is not really about Israel and our evil Palestinian neighbors. But I don't want get into that right now, because you won't be able to grasp what I'm talking about.
There is a big wave of hate coming your way, and you need to establish yourselves as a united group to protect yourselves.
There is a big wave of hate coming your way, and you need to establish yourselves as a united group to protect yourselves. The March for Israel in Washington a month ago was incredible, but now it's time to put words into action.
It's wonderful to see everyone lighting menorahs together in public, especially college students on campus - but it's not enough.

Now is the time for all the heads of Jewish communities, federations, non-profits and educational institutions to come together and develop a serious strategy for keeping everyone safe. Because I'm telling you very honestly that no one is going to protect you. Not the police or the CIA.
If you think these issues in the corporate world are the end of it - think again. If the Jews of America don't unite their ranks there could be situations similar to the Holocaust and even worse.
What Kind of Actions?
All the things that weakened over the last decade as Americans tried to blend into the crowd. Not only did the support for Israel diminish significantly, American Jews thought they needed to tell our government how to run Israel.
And this gap between Israel and the Jews of America kept growing. So first of all - it's important for the Jewish leaders of America to support Israel the way they used to.
Most importantly: Jewish youth need to be involved in programs that strengthen their Jewish identity and their bond with Israel - this is a must. These programs can no longer be about them being lectured to - they have to be experiential and bring different parts of the Jewish community together, so we can all learn how to get along together - especially the next generation.
Another vital point is the need to learn to treat each other with patience and consideration. Of course this won't come naturally. As I'm always saying, we're going to have work at it.

1 年Jews have as much power and influence in America as they did in Germany . It didn't end well for them. One difference Americans are revolutionaries and are well armed .

1 年It is a bit suspect and telling when an Israeli is telling a Jew in Texas "you need to organize yourselves, because no one is coming to protect you." What do you know of the experience of an American Jew? I feel perfectly safe. My family feels perfectly safe. No one in Gaza feels as safe as I do as a Jew right now, in Houston. And yet you choose to speak for me as an ex-sniper in the IDF. In the past two months the IDF has killed 15,000 people who by their own numbers are 2/3 civilian. In the history of the United States, 100 Jews have not died from domestic antisemitism. Who do you think is coming for me? Do you think Hamas is coming for me? Do you think my anti-Zionist neighbors are coming for me? Who is this "big wave of hate"? I feel none of it, and see none of it on the horizon. What I do see is a state that wants to traffic terror to a foreign population that's increasingly unreceptive and unsympathetic to their political goal, and unwilling to tolerate the cost in human lives to accomplish it.

1 年Things have already become worse for palestinians and Muslims. With Islamophobia on the rise, thousands and thousands of childrens dying, its a shame that we are still advocating for our side of the story instead of a ceasfire and supporting and protecting innocent lifes!

This is absolutely critical. I think maybe it is even important to step back a bit and realize that the point of conversation has to be about finding and building on common ground rather than lecturing or convincing the other to abandon disagreement. In the end, Palestinians and Israelis will rise or fall together. Efforts to push one population or the other out to the sea will so stain the other as to cause permanent, possibly fatal damage to the surviving group. Security is indivisible and either Israelis and Palestinians will have it together or not at all.

1 年I am reminded of the Adam Sandler movie, Zohan, which was a comic representation of the stupidity of induced social pressure on both sides to hate each other in the Middle East. The touching message in the movie of course is that the Palestinian and the Jewish peoples in America realised the stupidity of this ingrained, purposeless hatred and walked away from it with the reward of a happier life. The biggest casualty of the October 7 invasion by Hamas, and the consequent “killing the cockroach with a sledgehammer” response by Israel, is that those who fled from this insanity and have settled in other countries have been lassoed and dragged back into the world’s most consistent lose-lose conflict.
