Below is a section from Climb Online's recent blog, titled "We’ve always done it that way". The blog looks into why businesses need to stay ahead of the marketing curve and why they can't just rely on method's that have worked well in the past.
As a Digital Marketing Consultant, when talking to potential clients, I frequently hear ‘we have always done it this way, and it works for us.’ Yes, if it works for you, carry on, as the saying goes "don’t fix it if it’s not broken" but this is only partly correct. When it comes to Marketing and growing the business, it’s not all about what you do, it’s more about what you are not doing that could be very detrimental to business growth. There are many previously successful businesses that got comfortable and were naive, thinking that they were invincible, by not being in business today just shows how looking for the new trends and innovative ways to generate new business is imperative. For example, the recent story with Nokia not doing anything wrong, but letting their competitors get ahead of them can also have a negative impact. If you look back the 90's, you couldn’t turn a corner without seeing a Nokia phone.
