We've Always Done It That Way...

We've Always Done It That Way...

Remember companies like Kodak, RadioShack, Sears, and Blockbuster? These were household names. They were titans in their field and seemingly untouchable at one point in time.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

While each organization made their own critical errors, I’m going to make a blanket statement and say that their downfall had one common theme – they failed to innovate. ?

Markets shift, competition grows, times change, and even the most prominent businesses can crumble if complacent. ?

We’ve all heard a colleague, boss, or client state, “we’ve always done it that way” as the given explanation when questioned for further clarity on a process or procedure. ?

What a lazy, unimaginative, and crippling way to operate in the business world.

The industrial automation industry is fast paced, inventive, and continues to grow. But like many industries, the hiring practices can be quite antiquated and lacking innovation during a time when hiring is evolving.

Is your company struggling to hire new talent? (If you say, “but everyone is having a hard time hiring” – I call B.S.)

There are tons of companies successfully attracting and onboarding high-performing employees.

Take a moment and think about your hiring practices. Are you doing things the same way that you always have because… you know… “we’ve always done it that way”? ?

If yes, it’s time for your company to innovate and improve your attraction and hiring practices.

Here are 7 strategies your company can implement to improve upon your candidate attraction and hiring success.

1.??????Make sure your employer brand is strong in the marketplace

  • What are your values?
  • What is your culture like?
  • Are you on social media?
  • Is your website updated?

2.??????Focus on the candidate experience

  • ?Shorten your interview process.
  • Give timely and constructive feedback.

3.??????Write better (more accurate) job descriptions

  • How is this role fulfilling to the candidate?
  • What are the actual expectations and responsibilities?
  • Required versus preferred qualifications.
  • Include compensation.

4.??????Pay a competitive salary

  • Research the local market / competition.
  • Practice regular benchmarking.
  • Ask your recruiting partner for insight.

5.??????Extend offers quickly

  • Don’t deliberate longer than necessary on a good candidate.

6.??????Offer work from home or remote options when possible

  • 58% of job holders in the US can work remotely at least part of the time. (McKinsey.com)

7.??????Invest in an external recruiting partner

  • ?Specialization in your industry in necessary.

Want to improve your candidate attraction and/or hiring success? Implementing just one of these ideas can lead to filling those vacancies that have been slowing down your business.?
