Westminster Dining holds Stop Hunger fundraiser

Sodexo’s team at Westminster Dining restarted an annual event that aims to raise funds for Stop Hunger in the local community.

On Sept. 14, Westminster Dining and the Westminster College Office of Professional Development & Community Engagement partnered with the New Wilmington Fresh Marketplace to hold a vendor fair. The event included tables from local businesses, musical entertainment, and concessions sold by Westminster Dining. Each vendor donated items for a raffle as well.

“All the funds from vendors spots, concessions and raffle tickets are donated to Stop Hunger, which will be invested in the local community,” said Westminster Dining Coordinator Mona Moufid, who planned the event. In addition to those funds, a donation jar was set out, and in total more than $400 was raised.

Moufid said Westminster Dining has held similar events in the past, pre-COVID, and they were able to restart it this year. Westminster Dining is active in supporting Stop Hunger initiatives in other ways, such as a successful Move For Hunger food drive held at the end of the spring semester that they hope to repeat this year.

“People have to be aware that there are people who are battling food insecurity,” Moufid said about the importance of these events. “This is our way of raising awareness and helping our community.”
