The Western Mass Economic Development Council (EDC) and SpringfieldWORKS hosted a dynamic roundtable discussion on economic development, featuring Susan M. Collins, President, and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. The meeting ?brought together 18 businesses and community leaders, to discuss ?critical economic matters, including workforce development, economic mobility, small business growth, and place-based investing.

President Collins shared the Federal Reserve's vision for an economy where inflation is not the primary concern. I The discussion highlighted the importance equitable resource provision and accessible job opportunities, fostering a dialogue for a more inclusive and prosperous future.

Speakers included Anne Kandilis, Director of Springfield WORKS, who emphasized building an economy that works for all, and Representative Carlos Gonzalez, D-Springfield, highlighted the need to address resource disparities across communities and the Commonwealth.

Christina Royal, former President of Holyoke Community College, stressed the significance of creating job opportunities that offer a clear pathway for advancement. Royal highlighted the transformative power of such opportunities in uplifting individuals and communities alike.

Charlie D'Amour, President and CEO of Big Y, showcased the positive impact of well-defined career paths and shared examples of employees who successfully transitioned from store roles to positions in IT, and other departments, illustrating the potential for personal and professional growth through career advancement.

President Susan M. Collins expressed her appreciation for engaging Western Massachusetts community leaders and ?commended the region's resilience and commitment to economic development.

Vice President and Chief of Staff, Xiomara DeLobato of the EDC reflected on the event’s success and it’s potential to pave the way for sustainable economic development in the region.
