Career Development Month
November is Career Development Month. Career development is about setting career goals, learning what steps to take to achieve those goals, and then taking action. At West-MEC's core, this is what we are all about.
When a student makes the decision to come to West-MEC, they are setting a goal for themselves. Students come here to learn the technical and professional skills required to become a hirable candidate in the industry or program they choose, to give them a headstart in seeking post-secondary education, or both.
Whatever path a student chooses after they complete a program here, West-MEC truly is a faster way forward for our students.
NASCAR Championship Weekend
As part of West-MEC's new partnership with Phoenix Raceway, some of our students got an incredible work-based learning experience by working the NASCAR Championship Weekend, which took place November 3-5.
Students had the opportunity to check out the pits, walk the track, and listen in on how a pre-race setup goes. Students also got some driver autographs and heard from some team owners about the ins and outs of breaking into the racing industry. Thanks again to Phoenix Raceway for this fantastic opportunity for our students and staff.
Congratulations
A round of applause is in order for our very own Kristina Guy. She was officially announced as the winner of the Association for Career & Technical Education’s Counseling and Career Development award at the ACTE Awards Gala in Phoenix on November 29.
The award recognizes the finest career and technical education educators at the middle/secondary school level who have demonstrated innovation in the classroom, commitment to their students, and dedication to the improvement of CTE in their institutions and communities.
Congratulations!!
