West Bengal Pollution control board bans pet coke and furnace oil.

The West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB)?has developed a policy to prohibit pet coke and furnace oil as industrial fuels in the state to curb pollution. Pet coke and furnace oil are the fuels of petroleum origin and are the cheapest. At the same time, it contains high quantities of volatile compounds and sulphur content. So, on burning, they emit high amounts of carbons.?The industries have been given a time frame of 18 months for switching to alternative fuels.

Alternative fuels other than Petcoke and Furnace oil

  • Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG),?
  • Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG),?
  • Piped Natural Gas,
  • Coal-Based Methane/ Compressed Natural Gas (CNG),?
  • Biomass
  • Refuse Derived Fuel,?
  • High-Speed Diesel,?
  • Light Diesel Oil.

A beneficial step towards the environment

Various categories of industries such as cement, thermal power plant, fertilizers, ceramic, glass, foundry, reheating furnaces, boiler-based industries etc., use pet coke and furnace oil for various purposes, including fuel. Therefore, these boilers are coal and oil operated and are unsustainable mainly because they emit large amounts of carbon and other gasses that are harmful to people and the overall environment. So, industries are looking for a way to continue their operations by using cost-effective alternatives. The industries need to make enormous investments in shifting to an alternative fuel. So, what’s the solution ultimately?

There is often colossal investment involve if any industry wants to shift to biomass. Thus, huge CAPEX?required to replace the existing fossil-based systems with new biomass systems. It can lead to production loss as well.

Looking into all the above considerations, Steamax came up with an innovative solution that is?OBR Kit?:

  1. The OBR kit consists of an auto fuel system and ash removal system.
  2. The OBR kit reduces fuel costs by up to 50%.
  3. OBR kit results in zero carbon emissions.
  4. No need of IBR approval.
  5. It can fit to gas/oil-based systems.

Steamax’s biomass fuel blend “Astillas”

At Steamax, we develop new and innovative, cost-effective biomass fuels and technologies. The fuel is clean, smoke-less and competent with automatic feeding systems with higher calorific value than briquettes and pellets. It is made with natural products like seasoned debarked wood, cashew DOC, sawdust and CNSL. Therefore, the fuel is fully compatible with all automatic fuel feeding systems.
