Wesleyan Foundation Equality Grant Recipients 2024

Wesleyan Foundation Equality Grant Recipients 2024

Wesleyan is driven by a powerful commitment to breaking down barriers and reducing inequalities for marginalized groups. In 2023, we introduced our Equality Grant with one goal in mind: to drive greater equality for disadvantaged groups.?

In 2024, we're proud to say this initiative is already making a difference. Through this year’s Equality Grant funding, we donated over £73,000 to eight remarkable charities. Each organisation is on the frontlines of change, driving positive impact for communities that need it most. Here’s a closer look at the inspiring organisations we’re supporting:

Waverley Care

Since 1989, Waverley Care has been Scotland’s trusted ally in the fight against HIV, Hepatitis, and stigma around sexual health. With a vision for a Scotland where everyone can live with acceptance and dignity, Waverley Care works tirelessly to educate, empower, and end discrimination. Our donation of nearly £10,000 is enabling them to create resources for African and South Asian communities—equipping individuals with essential information on HIV and sexual health.

“We are immensely grateful for the support of the Wesleyan Foundation, which will enable us to co-produce educational videos featuring positive, updated messages on today’s reality of living with HIV. These videos will encourage Minority Ethnic Health community members to engage in prevention, treatment, and care, empower people to maintain good health and demonstrate that living well with HIV is possible and safe, posing no threat of viral transmission to others.” — Ese Johnson , Development Manager, Minority Ethnic Health Project, Waverley Care

Back Up

For those facing the life-altering impact of a spinal cord injury (SCI), Back Up is a beacon of hope. Spinal cord injuries are not only physically devastating but can drastically impact mental health, relationships, and career prospects. Our £10,000 donation supports Back Up’s peer-led volunteer program, which is driven by individuals who have lived through these challenges themselves. By providing support, independence-building programs, and a strong community, Back Up empowers people to regain confidence and embrace life again.

Coventry Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre (CRASAC)

CRASAC stands as Coventry’s only specialist service supporting adults and children who have been affected by sexual violence and abuse. Whether it’s a recent event or a past trauma, CRASAC offers a safe space for healing. Our £10,000 donation is helping CRASAC expand its counselling services, giving survivors access to therapy that addresses their trauma, restores a sense of control, and supports emotional and physical recovery.

Launch It

Dedicated to igniting the entrepreneurial spirit in young people from under-resourced communities, Launch It is on a mission to empower youth to turn their business ideas into reality. Through our £10,000 donation, the Rocket Launchers program will reach even more young visionaries, providing them with mentoring, training, and an affordable workspace. By investing in these future leaders, we’re not just helping them build businesses; we’re helping them build brighter futures.

“We are incredibly grateful for the generous support from The Wesleyan Equality Fund, which has been instrumental in the continued success of our Rocket Launchers Volunteer Programme. Thanks to your commitment, we've been able to empower young people through mentorship, inspiring speaker events, and workshops on starting a business — helping them build brighter futures. Your support makes it possible for us to reach even more young people in need of guidance and opportunity. Thank you for believing in our mission and for helping us ignite the potential of the next generation.” — Laura Symmons , Development Director, Launch It

NICE – Centre for Movement Disorders

NICE provides life-changing support to over 300 families affected by movement disorders such as cerebral palsy and Parkinson’s. Through Conductive Education (CE), NICE empowers children and adults to gain control over their movements, fostering independence and confidence. Our £5,000 donation supports their school holiday programs, giving children the chance to engage in fun, inclusive activities that boost mental and physical wellbeing.

“Support from Wesleyan is invaluable for our children, all who have movement disabilities, as it has enabled NICE – Centre for Movement Disorders to provide primary aged children with the same opportunities as their able-bodied peers. By supporting the ongoing development of our holiday provision, we are able to make our children feel that they have access to some of the same activities as their siblings and friends, and giving them improved mental and physical wellbeing by taking part in fun activities.” — Sadie Newman , Trusts and Grants Fundraiser, NICE

Haringey Migrant Support Centre

At Haringey Migrant Support Centre, no one is left behind. Offering free advice on immigration, housing, and basic necessities, Haringey supports migrants from all backgrounds, including refugees, asylum seekers, and undocumented individuals. With our £10,000 donation, the centre is hiring a Senior Housing and Destitution Caseworker, who will provide crucial support to individuals navigating homelessness and legal challenges.

Interest Link Borders

Interest Link Borders enriches the lives of people with learning disabilities and young people with autism through volunteer befriending services across the Scottish Borders. Our £8,000 donation helps sustain their one-on-one and group befriending programs, fostering connections that uplift and support both participants and volunteers alike.

“A big thank you from everyone at Interest Link: Your grant will fund the highest quality activities and opportunities for our members with learning disabilities and volunteers in Roxburgh, breaking down barriers with the community and boosting wellbeing and quality of life. Family life in general will improve because members have a brighter outlook and something fun to look forward to.” — Andrew Findlay , Project Co-ordinator, Interest Link Borders

Team Domenica

By delivering tailored employment programs, Team Domenica empowers people with learning disabilities to achieve independence and confidence. Our £10,000 donation supports a comprehensive program that includes work experience, classroom education, and personal development activities—all geared toward helping candidates thrive within their communities.

These partnerships are only the beginning. At Wesleyan Foundation, we believe in the power of connection, compassion, and equality. We’re proud to stand alongside these extraordinary organisations, creating a brighter, more inclusive future for all.

A big thank you to Wesleyan - your generosity will enable us to deliver more life changing and life saving services to those impacted by Rape & Sexual Abuse!

Thank you Wesleyan for your amazing support! ?? This grant will make a big difference to our work at Back Up, helping us reach more people with spinal cord injuries and provide life-changing support. Together, we can continue to empower individuals to live with confidence and independence. Thank you for believing in our mission!
