We're ready for take-off!

We're ready for take-off!

Welcome on Board! ????

After 14 months of creating content on LinkedIn, I realized I wanted another avenue to share thoughts and ideas - one without character limits and algorithms that determine who sees what.

My goal with this newsletter is to:

  1. Provide actionable tips and resources to support your job search.
  2. Share jobs openings with companies that I can confidently recommend (and make connections where I can!)
  3. Help at least 1 person land a new job every week!

P.S.?Shoutout to my follower, Kye Henry , for coming up with the title for this newsletter! There were so many amazing suggestions, but as someone who loves travel, having the runway (??) to make travel puns tipped the scales towards "Landed!"

Ready for Take-off! ??

The reality is that for every job posted, most companies are getting 100+ applicants. If they are a well known company or it's a really popular job title, that number is more like 1000+. So many, MANY very qualified candidates end up not even getting an interview for these roles.

Here are a few things that most applicants don't do that could help, ESPECIALLY if you're a less traditional candidate (like pivoting careers) where your resume alone may not capture the recruiter's attention.

  1. After you apply, message a few people at the company (target the person you think might be the hiring manager or recruiter, or any connections at the company), letting them know you've applied and expressing excitement about hearing back. Even if they don't respond, this increases the chances of them looking up your application and reviewing it early.
  2. After you apply (or in the application if there's a space to add something extra), share a work product, portfolio, customer reviews, etc. to show more of what you bring to the table. If you already have something to share, it's actually not a ton of effort. And I can count on one hand how many people have done this. It's definitely a way to stand out!
  3. And finally, I have mixed feelings here but I've seen multiple people recommend video intros where someone shares a bit more about their background and interest (think: video cover letter) as a way for candidates to stand out. I say mixed feelings because it's a big extra step to take and I don't think people should have to do things like this, however, I've NEVER gotten one of these so it's a way to differentiate yourself. So it could be a thing to try that pretty much no one is doing.

Have you tried out any of these strategies or is there one you're excited to try? Let me know, I'd love to hear from you!

The In-Flight Amenities ??

A product you need to try:?I am blown away by?Teal's?new integration with GPT-3 - you can see several examples of how I use this on TikTok (like check out this walk-thru of how to add achievements to your resume and this peek at the cover letter generator! If you've got writer's block every time you try to work on a resume or cover letter, you need to check this out - it's free - sign-up here!

A company you need to check out: Every week won't feature Zapier but I'd be remiss not to kick us off with a company I can confidently recommend - because I work there! It's 100% remote and we're hiring! When I think about the people at Zapier, I think about really empathetic and genuinely kind team. I love the flexibility, the perks and benefits (office set-up budget, unlimited PTO, conference and education budget, just to name a few!)

Every week, I will highlight a new company that is a great place to work, and actively hiring. Interested in having your company featured in this section? Sign up here!

A jobseeker you need to hire: Every week, I will feature the story of someone looking for their next role in this section so we can help them make some traction in their search.

For this week, however, I wanted to share Wiseful's layoff list with all of you - if you've been affected by a layoff, please add yourself - hundreds of people have already been hired off of their list, and they offer supports like job fairs - and it's free! And if you're hiring, check it out!

Interested in having your story shared? Sign up here!

We've reached our destination, but don't deplane just yet! ??

I'm planning to move this newsletter over to Beehiv in April to get a bit more functionality in creating these - you can subscribe here.

And you can always find resources and support for your job search here!
