Publications

This state-of-the-art review analyses the evolution of EU climate policy since the 1990s, assessing the significance of the European Green Deal for climate governance. The review also discusses key challenges in the EU's approach, such as aligning rapid action with coherence and ensuring an effective and just transition, questioning the EU's ability to meet its climate objectives.

Louisa Parks , Sebastian Oberthür and Tereza Maarova explore the intersection of climate activism and EU climate governance. Their scoping paper focuses on the policy impact of the surge of extra-institutional activism since 2015 and proposes three options to enable more impactful activism for a more democratic and inclusive EU climate policymaking.?

Exploring the nuanced role of scientific experts in political learning, Claire Dupont and Bishoy Louis shed light on how it influences science-driven policy. Their study reveals key strategies like narrative framing, socialization, and governance, highlighting the proactive and evolving role of scientists in shaping policy from 1990 to 2022.

Juliette Robert 's report evaluates the EU's climate and energy policies against the Aarhus Convention's environmental democracy standards. It highlights gaps in the 2018 Governance Regulation, particularly in public participation and stakeholder engagement, calling for much-needed revisions.
