We're Not Perfect

Often, when participating in sports I heard the phrase, "Perfect practice, makes perfect" but as I've gotten older I've come to realize that the idea of being perfect, in any capacity, is an unattainable goal.
None of us are perfect.
In fact, I've learned that the higher the level of achievement the more unbalance and lack of perfection we actually possess.
Case in point, I do not personally know any professional athlete that doesn't possess some type of ADHD or obsessive-compulsive traits, because those tendencies are actually a benefit and have helped us propel to the highest level of sports.
Highly intellectual people tend to experience an unbalance with social comfort, and those who possess a singular opinion tend to lack openness for conflicting discussions.
I could go on with examples of unbalance or lack of perfection, but I think you get the point and I'd rather focus on the heart of the matter which is......the pursuit of excellence, versus perfection.
Pat Riley, who has nine collective NBA Championships as a player, coach, and team executive has stated - "Excellence is the gradual result of always striving to do better."

New York Times bestselling author, Chris Brady, has famously stated - "Wealth always finds excellence." (notice he did not say, wealth always finds perfection)
Famous American-British author, James Henry, has stated - "Excellence does not require perfection."
As someone who teaches individuals and organizations how to change, I think I need to begin with changing the way we may think about success and understand that we're not perfect. Achieving perfection, although quite admirable, is not possible and pursuing excellence is a better way to become a champion.
So, as you go about your daily business remember.......a champion is not someone who pursues perfection, but someone who strives to be the best they can be, one small win at a time.
