We're only HUMAN
The world has changed quite considerably in the last few weeks hasn't it? As I add Day 30 in lockdown to my Facebook update (I rarely used Facebook before this all started), and laugh out loud at the latest TikTok (before Coronovirus, I thought that was the sound a clock made (and yes Im too old for it....I know!)), I marvel at how we as humans adapt to our changing circumstances, how we find the humour in everything and how fragile and human we really are.
Now I'm not saying being on Facebook or TikTok is a good thing, quite the opposite under normal circumstances (my teenagers regularly clock up 50 hours in one sitting!) but I have realised how things I never used before are now part of my daily routine and just how much my circumstances have changed.
Another change has been our monthly video conference. Prior to the 'virus' we held our conferences online anyway, but just audio. Now we all use the video feature too. I can see my collegues who have all grown beards (not me! although I noticed a stray hair the other day!), one was sat with his child on his lap, we all share a bit of banter and ask about each others welfare. Out of a bad situation something really good has happened. We have shown just how 'human' we really are when the facade of the office environment is stripped.
I enjoyed the meeting more than any other, I felt relaxed just being myself and I could tell that everyone else on the call had enjoyed it too. Now, we dont want this virus and lockdown to stay forever, I for one am also going a little stir crazy, but I do hope our 'human nature' outlives the virus and we all continue to be real, fun and kind.
We have all shown just how human we are. Work still gets done, its just more fun.
Take care everyone.
