We're Only Allowed To Share Good News On Social Media - So Here's Some Bad.

None of us like being around people who are pessimistic. You know, the ones who always see the darker side of life; the dawn chorus was too loud, the sunset was too short, and that free bar only served 6 cocktails.

But the sunset and double rainbow posts of social media mean that we're constantly bombarded by messages and images of happiness and @Linkedin is no different; We're hiring, Congrats on the Awards Team, New job, So Proud, It's Our Anniversary etc etc

And don't get me wrong. I love a bit of positive news, I'm one of the worst. Just look through my social media from Insta to Twitter to Linkedin to Facebook. I should be running the world!

But how many of us every once in a while, want to slightly bring the party down and post the truth of how our day in the office actually was (without creating a crisis of confidence in your own ability to do your job, or the Team, or the business you run).

Well here's my bad news - We've just lost 2 pitches that I really wanted to win.

It's actually a lot more difficult than it would appear to post some bad news and I'm compelled/ addicted to end with some good news. To try and create a post that's what we politely call a "poo" sandwich, but I'm not going to. I'm just going to leave it there.

Ok, I can't.......

(but I am going to force myself to just write a post with just bad news)

That's a great idea Jon on sending a feedback form to the client to find out why you didn't win but do they alway complete the form? I shall also pass this on to my partner who works in the exhibition industry. The amount of hard work that goes into his designs and number of hours it takes spending on them it can be so disappointing when losing a pitch so a feedback form could be the answer.

Great post Mark - thanks for sharing. Losing pitches is really tough. Sometimes I wonder if clients truly appreciate how tough it is on the losing contributors. Sorry to hear about your double-whammy. If we pitch, we do so on the proviso that whether we win or lose, the client (or not-client as the case may be) completes a questionnaire. Ok, so we might not get 100% honest feedback. But it's better than a few platitudes in a template email. Good luck with your next tender!

Thanks for this Mark. We lost two pitches this week, one because the client's client had a supplier in mind already, and another with no clear reason given. We have our fair shares of wins too, but it's refreshing to hear that we're not the only ones who don't win them all!
