The Director of Marketing is responsible for creating and implementing a marketing campaign promoting Deeply Rooted performances, educational programs, classes, and outreach events. The Director of Marketing would also manage and advance the Deeply Rooted brand across all initiatives, including the new Deeply Rooted Center for Black Dance and Creative Communities (Deeply Rooted Dance Center).

Deeply Rooted Productions dba Deeply Rooted Dance Theater (DRP/DRDT), established in 1995, made its public debut in 1996. DRP re-imagines and diversi?es the aesthetics of contemporary dance by uniting modern, classical, American, and African American traditions in dance and storytelling. Through its uncompromising pursuit of excellence, DRP demonstrates the transformative power of art and beauty in Chicago and on the world stage. It cultivates a creative community dedicated to nurturing artists, advancing dance education, fostering collaboration, supporting human relationships, and sharing common values.

DESCRIPTION

The Director of Marketing develops and directs the implementation of all marketing and public relations strategies for the organization, its programs, and activities. They are responsible for achieving all earned revenue goals for the organization. The Director of Marketing leads initiatives and campaigns to heighten DRP institutional identity, promotes awareness and recognition of the organization to a broad and diverse constituency, and generates and identi?es new sources of earned revenue for DRP. The Director of Marketing reports to the Executive Director and collaborates regularly with the Artistic Director, other senior sta?, and contracted vendors.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborates with the Executive Director and Artistic Director to develop annual marketing plans and timelines.
  • Develops and manages marketing and promotion budgets to support attendance and revenue goals of DRP; provides monthly projections to the Finance team and regular reports to the Board.
  • Builds and advances brand awareness and positioning.
  • Manages the successful execution of marketing plans with the support of sta?, consultants and interns including, but not limited to advertising (digital and non-digital), social media planning, public relations, brand strategy, customer relationship management, customer service, data analytics, pricing strategy, consumer and patron research, and promotions.
  • Provides direction and supervises marketing sta?, contract publicists, and other vendors.
  • Collaborates with Development sta? to create and promote media and corporate sponsorship opportunities; provide supporting materials for donor/funder proposals and reports.
  • Creates compelling institutional and show-speci?c marketing materials, communications, and collateral for all programs and projects.
  • Leads the social media and direct marketing strategies to create captivating and creative communication to the public.
  • Instrumental in the promotional launch and opening of the Deeply Rooted Dance Center in 2024.
  • Develops relationships with local arts organizations, neighborhood groups and residents, and political o?cials to promote DRP and advance the organization’s reputation.
  • In collaboration with appropriate sta? analyzes patron demographics, sales trends, buying patterns, and competition; utilizing data to determine advertising, and promotion, and pricing strategies for all performances.

REPORTING

The Marketing Director reports to the Executive Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4+ years mid- to senior-level marketing experience in the non-pro?t sector, preferably in live entertainment.
  • Visionary and dynamic leader with prior success in a leadership/management role.
  • Persuasive and compelling communicator with superb copywriting and editing abilities.
  • Highly energetic; e?ective motivator of sta? and volunteers.
  • Strategic and creative; responsive to changing priorities, opportunities, and challenges.
  • Passionate performing arts consumer and advocate.
  • Thorough understanding arts audiences and prospective arts lovers.
  • Ability to e?ectively communicate, sell and translate DRP’s mission/vision and?programs to diverse audiences, communities, and individual stakeholders.
  • Well-versed in current social media practices and online advertising/promotion; ability to cultivate an e?ective organizational presence and develop compelling marketing/promotional campaigns across multiple channels.
  • Keen eye for graphics, publication design, photography, and video.
  • Able to work and interact well with individuals from various backgrounds in a culturally?diverse, fast-paced, and team-oriented environment to problem-solve and contribute?ideas.

COMPENSATION

Commensurate with experience for an organization of DRP’s size, with opportunities for growth and bene?ts in subsequent years. This is a full-time position with ?exible hours, comp-time, paid vacation, and sick leave. Health bene?ts and retirement plan to begin the first of the month following a thirty-day waiting period.

Pay: $75,000 - $80,000/year
