The scheme is designed by The Fostering Network, the UK’s leading fostering charity. Being ‘fostering friendly’ means that we at Capstone Foster Care have implemented a policy that supports colleagues who are foster carers and who want to be foster carers. This can include flexible working arrangements and additional leave for fostering commitments such as assessment and social worker visits.?
Why does it matter??
Perhaps first and foremost, as a fostering organisation ourselves, it makes sense for us to officially align ourselves with the values we live and breathe every day.??
But what else??
According to The Fostering Network there is a national shortage of fostering households of over 9000, by publicly announcing an official fostering friendly policy, it signals to those who are thinking about fostering that the support and infrastructure is in place for them to do so without having to have awkward conversations with their employer. Allowing more people to have the confidence to step forward and become foster carers.?
Taking the time to implement a fostering friendly policy can also improve current team wellbeing and retention. It can alleviate stress, improve work/life balance, which will lead to more job satisfaction. When the wider team feel well cared for and supported in their responsibilities, it’s more likely to encourage loyalty.?
Being a fostering friendly employer is also good press! It shows care for family life, as well as a attracting a more diverse and inclusive work force. Showing that you’re a company which recognises the importance of social responsibility.??
