We're bringing The National to you ... come join us while we're on the road
THE National is hitting the road to bring Scotland’s only independence-supporting daily newspaper to our readers in their own local areas – part of a series of new initiatives we’re launching in the run-up to our second anniversary.
Our team here at The National is taking the paper to you because we want to meet our loyal supporters in their home towns and give them a chance to have their say on the issues that matter to them – but we could use your help to make that happen.
We want feedback from our National “family” on where you think we should visit and why, and how your local communities can help us organise a meeting and find interesting stories to tell in your area.
Our plan is to set up a live newsroom in a busy local centre where people can come in for a chat with our editor Callum Baird, our reporters and campaign team, find out more about how the paper is run and give us your local story ideas.
Every fortnight we hope to travel to a different location, set up shop during the day within that community and make sure the next day’s paper is packed full of local news – but we are relying on all our readers to get involved. At night we want to hold an event where local people and activists can come along to meet our editor and our popular columnists like the Wee Ginger Dug. That’s where you come in! We need volunteers in these areas to help us set it up, get the word out that we are coming to town and encourage people to tell us what’s happening in their area.
Our editor said he was very excited about getting out into the local communities and hearing all about the important issues that matter to our readers.
“The National only exists because our readers demand it,” he said. “It’s their newspaper, and now we’re planning to bring it to them. What better way to engage with The National family than to turn up in our readers’ home towns?
We can’t wait to get out on the road to meet the people who read our newspaper every day and to tell the local stories that matter to them.”
The National is also keen to hear about local heroes and how they have helped to make a difference to your city, town or village – we’ll do a profile of them while we’re there.
What we need from YOU:
Get behind our roadshow by sending suggestions of where we should go and why.
Tell us your local stories and tell us what matters most to you in your area.
Help us organise a community event where we can meet local people and tell them what The National is all about.
Don’t forget to visit us during the day while we’re in town at our local live newsroom.
We’ll give a signed framed copy of our first ever edition to any groups who agree to host us.
