Dr. Frank C. Worrell

Frank C. Worrell , PhD, is a Distinguished Professor in the Berkeley School of Education at the University of California, Berkeley, where he serves as Faculty Director of the School Psychology Program and the Academic Talent Development Program. He also holds an affiliate appointment in the Social and Personality Area in the Department of Psychology. His research interests include at-risk youth, Black education, cultural identities, gifted education/talent development, scale development, time perspective, and the translation of psychological research findings into practice. He is a former editor of Review of Educational Research and a former Member at Large on the Board of Directors of the American Psychological Association (APA). Dr. Worrell is a Fellow the American Educational Research Association, the Association for Psychological Science, and six divisions of APA. He is an elected member of the Society for the Study of School Psychology and the National Academy of Education. Dr. Worrell is a recipient of UC Berkeley’s Chancellor’s Award for Advancing Institutional Excellence and Equity, the Distinguished Scholar Award from the National Association for Gifted Children, the Distinguished Contributions to Research Award from Division 45 of APA, the Outstanding International Psychologist Award from Division 52 of APA, the Palmarium Award in Gifted Education from the Morgridge College of Education at the University of Denver, the award for Outstanding Contributions to the Profession of School Psychology from the Council of Directors of School Psychology Programs, and an Honorary Doctorate from Heidelberg University. He was the 2022 President of APA.?

Dr. Adia Harvey Wingfield

Dr. Adia Harvey Wingfield is the Mary Tileston Hemenway Professor of Arts & Sciences and Vice Dean for Faculty Development and Diversity at Washington University in St. Louis, where she also co-directs the Program for Public Scholarship. Her most recent book,?Gray Areas: How the Way We Work Perpetuates Racism and What We Can Do to Fix It,?was named a Library Journal Editor’s Pick and one of Publisher’s Weekly’s best nonfiction books of 2023. In addition to academic outlets like?American Sociological Review?and?Annual Review of Sociology, her work also appears in?The Atlantic,?Slate, and?Harvard Business Review. She is the recipient of multiple awards including the 2019 C. Wright Mills Award from the Society for the Study of Social Problems (SSSP) and the 2022 Cox-Johnson-Frazier Award from the American Sociological Association (ASA).?In 2023, she was elected the 116th?President of the American Sociological Association.

In addition to his work in digital marketing, Damon is a dedicated community advocate. He is the creator of the Knoxville Black Business directory; a website designed to promote and support black-owned businesses in the area. His efforts have earned him recognition for his impact on the community and his commitment to social responsibility.

When he's not working, Damon enjoys playing golf and spending time with his family. He is a devoted husband and father, and his love for his family is evident in everything he does.

FUN FACT & SPOILER ALERT: Shortly before we released this episode Damon was appointed as the Knox County Commissioner for District 1 of Knoxville, TN. Woohoo! Congratulations to Commissioner Rawls!

Dr. Courtney McCluney

Dr. Courtney L. McCluney (she/her) is a Lady of Leisure recovering from cycles of burnout and overwork. She is currently seeking rest and pleasure as she reimagines our relationship with working.

Dr. Courtney is a brilliant PhD, first generation college graduate from High Point, North Carolina who descended from enslaved Black people and dispossessed indigenous tribes. She is a reader of historical fiction and wellness-centered books, writer, student of meditation and yoga, and believer in a liberated Black woman-centric theology.?

Sustaining herself hinges on Dr. Courtney’s capacity to resist overwork and breathe. She is a student of somatic healing and mindfulness and designs her life to cultivate ease. This includes napping , shortening the work week, taking monthly sabbaticals throughout the year, and living in rhythm with her menstrual cycle and the seasons.

Dr. Courtney completed a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the Darden School of Business and the Center for Interprofessional Education ?at the University of Virginia, a PhD in Psychology (Personality and Social Contexts ) at the University of Michigan in 2017 and a BA in Psychology and Interpersonal/Organizational Communications at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a Ronald E. McNair Scholar .?

Dr. Riana Elyse Anderson

Dr. Riana Elyse Anderson is an Associate Professor at Columbia University’s School of Social Work. She earned her PhD in Clinical and Community Psychology at the University of Virginia and completed a Clinical and Community Psychology Residency at Yale University's School of Medicine and a Fellowship in Applied Psychology at the University of Pennsylvania. On the whole, Dr. Anderson aims to facilitate healing in Black families with practical applications of her research and clinical services, as well as through public engagement, teaching, mentorship, and policy recommendations. Dr. Anderson uses mixed methods to study discrimination and racial socialization in Black families and apply her findings to help families reduce their racial stress. She is particularly interested in how family-based interventions help to improve Black youth’s psychosocial well-being and health-related behaviors. Dr. Anderson is the developer and director of the EMBRace (Engaging, Managing, and Bonding through Race) intervention and CEO and Founder of RACE Space Inc., and loves to translate her work for a variety of audiences, particularly those whom she serves in the community, via blogs, video, and literary articles. Additionally, for her early career accomplishments, Dr. Anderson has been the recipient of over twenty awards, including national awards from SRA, SRCD, APS, and FABBS. Finally, Dr. Anderson was born in, raised for, and returned to Detroit and is becoming increasingly addicted to cake pops.
