Throw a Few Coins in My Hat
Happy Friday Friends,
I lived in London for many years, from my mid-twenties to my early thirties.
One of my favourite places to spend Saturdays was London’s South Bank. You can start at Tower Bridge and walk all the way along the Thames to the Tate Modern. There are markets, The London Eye, Big Ben and many other attractions.
Of course, there is a high density of tourists on foot, and like in many big cities, you’ll find buskers along the route. On a particular stretch of that walk, you will often see 10+ buskers pretty close to each other.
On one of my first weekends in London, I walked along the south bank and stopped to watch a group of breakdancers - they were incredible! I remember it fondly because they pulled me out of the crowd to try a head spin. I put on a helmet, and they got me up into a headstand and spun me around like a top.
Hilarious and terrifying all at the same time. I remember a crowd of at least 50-60 people watching and applauding the performance. I'm sure some of the applause was for the buskers.

Buskers vie for people's attention for hours on end. They only have seconds to grab them. They hope to attract a group of people for a few minutes and then gather tips from that crowd.
This must seem like a random topic but I was thinking about it last week; Scrolling through my LinkedIn feed led me to think that everyone there is busking. Running a startup or business and attracting attention is exactly like busking. A large group of "performers" trying to grab an audience's attention as they scroll past.
Rather than give advice this week, I want to bring you on this discovery journey with me. There are fascinating parallels and learnings between busking and our lives.
