There were 17 million new cases of cancer worldwide in 2018; here is how you can help make a difference!

Dear fellow magical person,

Imagine a world without cancer and the suffering caused by this horrid disease. Do you know:

• There were 17 million new cases of cancer worldwide in 2018; we are not even including the people already living with cancer and their families or cases that were not documented. Cancer has grown into an epidemic and people need help.
• Cancer is still discussed largely in a 'clinical' context and mortality. But more and more people are surviving cancer, and living with and beyond it. There is little support available for people whose lives have been changed forever by cancer.
• Whilst the survival rates of cancer are increasing, there aren't many success stories to refer to. A success story from a cancer survivor might just be the beacon of hope that may help someone get through one more dark day.

If I had a choice, I would choose a world without cancer. But it is not my choice to make, so I would like to do the next best thing...help as many people touched by cancer thrive despite their prognosis.

How do I aim to achieve this?

My book, ‘My Cancer Journey - A rendezvous with myself’, self-published in May 2015, is a step forward in this direction. Publishizer, a crowd-funding literary agency has shown interest in it. If I can get enough support for my book, (minimum 500 pre-orders, ideally 1000), Publishizer will pitch my book to 150 traditional publishers. A traditional publishing deal is necessary to be able to reach people worldwide because a large publishing house will have the resources to promote a book worldwide.

I am confused. What am I pre-ordering? The first edition or the second edition?

Fair enough. Here are two possible scenarios:

1) A traditional publisher accepts my book and wants to publish the current book as it is. Here the goal would be to capitalise a well-received book and promote it worldwide. Your pre-order will count towards this first edition.

2) A traditional publisher accepts my book and wants me to do a second edition. Here the aim would be to do a second edition for a well-received book and promote it worldwide. Your pre-order will count towards this second edition.

I do not know which of the two scenarios will pan out for me. I will find out after the crowd-funding campaign finishes.

But if the second edition happens, I will specifically focus on:

• The long-term side effects of cancer and how they impact the body, the psychology, and the mind and why cancer IS a life-changing experience.
• Practical aspects with regards to rebuilding a life such as lost confidence, finding it hard to go back to work, can you even go back to what you did before or do you want to?
• How going through cancer can rob people of important life choices such as having a family? Topics such as these are still discussed, if at all, behind the closed doors in therapy rooms. Not enough discussion, not enough information, not enough support and not enough healing.
• How can you thrive despite and beyond cancer? Based on my own personal transformation and my work as a coach.

My 1st book was about diagnosis, survival from cancer, & the beginning of my journey to find myself. The 2nd edition will be about thriving beyond cancer and coming home to myself. The decision to live consciously and its reality.

What happens if you show your support through pre-ordering and I get no traditional publishing deal?

I see these three options:

• You get a refund.
• I make a donation on your behalf to a local cancer support centre.
• I fulfil the order through the first edition of my book. You can have this book for yourself if you have not read it or gift it to a loved one, if you have. Either way, you make a difference in the world of cancer because the profits will go to a local cancer support centre.
