#wepreserve
Earth Overshoot Day tells us that we are not just exhausting the resources of the planet on which we depend, but are accelerating the pace. And today is the day. From now until the end of December, we are using more resources than the earth naturally regenerates. We need to start taking action today to make sure we have a tomorrow. And today, 7 colleagues and representatives of GS Inima tell us how they take small steps towards a sustainable future and share ways they preserve the planet. #MoveTheDate
I choose to get around by bicycle to enjoy of an environmentally friendly alternative
Denice Alejandra Naranjo, Laboratory Technician GS Inima - MEXICO
"I like to incorporate conscious daily habits to reduce my carbon footprint. I prefer to use public transportation whenever possible. In this way, when weather and distance permit, I choose to get around by bicycle, thus enjoying an environmentally friendly and healthy alternative. I also prefer to purchase locally sourced products, thus reducing the emissions associated with transporting products."
My family and I participate in the book recycling initiative in schools, giving them a second life and increasing access to educational materials.
Jasim Al Shidi, HR Manager at GS Inima - MIDDLE EAST
"My family and I have committed to the book recycling initiative in local public and private schools. This action is coordinated each quarter by the Ministry of Education and the private company Mazya Al Batinah LLC. In this way we give used books a second life to the materials, reduce landfill waste and slow down the need for deforestation. Last but not least, were glad to give people access to educational materials they otherwise wouldn’t have."
I adopt “Meatless Monday” which encourages the replacement of animal protein with vegetable protein.
Amanda Maia Pereira, Process Engineer in O&M Department at GS Inima - BRASIL
“Two years ago I started to change my consumption habits in general, especially my diet. I started by adopting “Meatless Monday”, a worldwide movement that encourages the replacement of animal protein with vegetable protein. The idea was not to eliminate meat from my diet, but to reduce it in order to help reduce greenhouse gasses. By adopting this habit, I was able to eat a more diverse diet without relying solely on animal protein, experimenting with new flavors and colors on my plate. I started giving priority to locally produced organic food and investigating the production chain of what I consumed. We are directly responsible for our consumption and habits, and I believe that taking responsibility for our choices is the simplest and most honorable way to contribute to the planet."

Pablo Palacios Valencia, Health & Safety Technician GS Inima - SPAIN
"For my commute to the office, I use my bicycle and the shuttle bus provided by the building property. My bicycle commute is about 4 kilometers each way. I choose this mode of transportation for environmental, economic and physical reasons. Additionally, cycling allows me to clear my mind and start the day with an active mind. Using a bicycle to commute to work is not a sport, it is just another way of sustainable mobility."
Second-hand clothes helps conserve resources.
Laura Vanessa Suárez Torres, Plant Manager of Ensenada at GS Inima - MEXICO
"I buy some second-hand clothes because they are unique and can be combined well with current fashion trends. Additionally, this helps conserve resources, and the clothes made a few decades ago are of better quality, as they were made to last a long time, unlike todays fast fashion. What is no longer useful to some can be a treasure for others, and at an excellent price."
I'm convinced that environmental education is essential for the little ones to raise awareness about resource preservation.
Susana Arias, Director of Administration at GS Inima - SPAIN
"Education and “creating” environmental awareness and sensitivity should start with each one of us being an example for the little ones. They know how to listen and imitate us in everything we do. Transmitting knowledge and experience is a way to establish in childrens minds the importance of taking care of our planet. At my daughter Natalias school, I give talks to the children about the importance of saving water and the consequences of water scarcity in the world. The sooner we start raising awareness among our children, the more and better we will be contributing to the preservation of our planet, and small actions like this can have a greater positive impact in the long run than we can imagine.
I've installed solar panels at home because is one of the most effective ways to reduce our carbon footprint.
Francisco Javier de Los Santos Zarco, Water Management Manager - SPAIN
"Every small action counts in the fight against climate change. Installing solar panels at home is one of the most effective ways to reduce our carbon footprint and move towards a sustainable future. In our home, we installed 10 solar panels of 545 Wp and a 5 kWh lithium battery 3 years ago, allowing us to achieve 80% annual self-consumption. Additionally, we have prevented the emission of 9 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere."
