Wendy Widder's Daniel Commentaries

My latest post* is about Dr. Wendy Widder's recent Zondervan commentaries on Daniel. I've also just uploaded a video conversation** with Dr. Widder about understanding and preaching Daniel.

What comes to your mind when someone mentions the book of Daniel?

  • Maybe it's a Sunday school lesson from long ago about daring to be a Daniel.
  • Maybe it's the spectacular visions, like the one about a magnificent statue being demolished by a flying boulder.
  • Maybe it's the inspiring story of Daniel's miraculous deliverance from a pack of hungry lions.
  • Maybe it's prophecy charts and Bible teachers trying [unconvincingly] to decipher the numbers in the prophetic time periods in Daniel 9-12.

Frankly, if any of the above are the main thing that comes to mind when you think of Daniel, you need to think again.

Daniel tells the story of God's faithfulness to his people Israel during their exile in Babylon. It assures them that their sin led to divine discipline, not abandonment. Jesus-followers today live in a different sort of exile, but receive the same sort of assurance from Daniel.

I hope you'll find this post* and video conversation** with Dr. Widder to be eye-openers into Daniel's story of God's faithfulness, a story that is just as true and encouraging today as it was then.?

All the best,

David
