"Our commitment goes beyond trends; we're crafting a wellness lifestyle. It's about seamlessly integrating health and luxury, offering guests an immersive experience that transcends conventional spa services."- Anderson Foote
What is clear, wellness is here, and it is here to stay. And that not only applies to our guests, but also to our employees.
Next in my Wellness in Hospitality interview series, I had the pleasure of speaking with Anderson Foote , a seasoned hotel general manager. In our conversation, we delve into the evolving landscape of the hospitality industry and the unique challenges faced over the past few years. Foote shares invaluable insights into the dynamic shifts in workforce dynamics, the resurgence of rates, and the delicate balance between profitability and employee well-being.
Interview Highlights:
1. Adapting to Workforce Challenges
Navigating the ever-changing challenges in the hospitality sector, Foote discusses the transformation in workforce dynamics. From overcoming the scarcity of interested personnel to addressing the decline in customer service standards, he emphasises the industry's need to realign training efforts. Foote highlights the significant shift in recruiting and training practices, emphasising the importance of instilling basic service interactions in the younger workforce. And from our perspective as hoteliers, we need to create packages that work for today’s employees and their current needs.
2.? Navigating the Profitability Tightrope
In recent years, our industry has witnessed a commendable uptick in rates. However, this surge comes hand in hand with a growing strain on our cost structure—escalating inflation, energy crises, and supply chain disruptions contribute to a challenging landscape. Despite these hurdles, the imperative remains: maintaining profitability while ensuring competitive salary packages for our team. It's a delicate balance where we recognise the need to attract and retain top talent by revisiting our compensation strategies. As we weather these economic challenges, the commitment to remaining profitable and investing in our workforce's wellbeing should stand as a cornerstone of our business strategy.
3. Elevating Wellbeing Beyond Trends
In the ever-evolving landscape of hospitality, prioritising wellness emerges as a timeless commitment. Beyond fleeting trends, Foot’s focus on wellbeing transcends the transient, creating a lasting impact on both guests and employees. By seamlessly integrating wellness into our offerings, from curated fitness programmes to local partnerships, he aims to provide an immersive and enriching experience for his guests. Hotelier’s dedication should be to foster a holistic environment that reflects not just a response to current demands but an enduring ethos that enhances the overall hospitality journey.

In wrapping up, what is clear is that despite challenges and shifts in the industry, the focus on giving top-notch experiences remains unchanged. Rates may go up and challenges might pop up, but we must adapt and shape the future. It’s about being smart, and making sure every guest gets an exceptional experience. It's not just about surviving; it's about thriving in a world where wellbeing, profit, and excellence come together. I love how Foote’s focus is to continue to innovate and adapt, creating memorable moments for clients and guests alike.
Thank you Anderson Foote for your great insights!
