Coaches - Are You Making This BIG Mistake when it comes to Growing Your Business?

If you think LinkedIn is the be-all-and-end-all for building your audience, it's time for a reality check.

Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love LinkedIn and I get a huge amount of business from it, but like all social platforms, it belongs to someone else.?

And that means you’re putting control of your leads and potential clients in someone else’s hands.

So while social platforms are great for many things, let's not forget the stalwart of digital marketing: the email list.

Let’s talk about why your business needs one.

As a business mentor and coach, I help coaches move from the one-on-one client world into the broader corporate market. But no matter your industry, an email list is a cornerstone for growth.

Email lists might seem old school, but they're the backbone of customer communication. Of course, having a lively social media presence is great, but where do you really get to talk business?

In an inbox, where you have undivided attention.

You might think, "Emails? Who reads those anymore?"

The answer is—a lot of people, especially if you make it worth their time.

Emails are not just another sales pitch though. They're a place for building trust, sharing value, and starting real conversations.

When someone opens your email they're making a commitment. They've make the decision to open and read what you have to say, and that's powerful. Plus, you can get down to brass tacks, sending content tailored just for them, not the broad, generic stuff that tends to end up on social media.

And let's not forget control.

With an email list, you're in the driver's seat. You can track who’s engaged with what you're saying. And if social media goes on down or worse, you get shut down (it happens!) - your email list is safe and sound.

HubSpot throws us some heavy-hitting stats:

·????? email marketing is 40% more effective at converting leads than social media.

·????? Click-through rate for emails sits at 2.9%, compared to social media's 1.7%.

·????? And email's ROI? A staggering 3,600%, towering over social media's 180%.

So what will you need to start building your list?

Well, first off you'll need a good email service provider—there's plenty, like MailerLite, ConvertKit, Mail Chimp (not my favourite) or ActiveCampaign—and something to draw people in - a killer lead magnet. This could be anything from a how-to guide to a free webinar.

Once they're in, keep the conversation going. Regular emails with engaging content will keep you in their minds. And personaliase those emails. Address your readers by name, make them feel seen.

Keep emails snappy, packed with value, and relevant to what's happening. Think of them as your business's open communications line to your customers—no middleman, just straight talk.

Even if you’re speaking to a corporate audience, remember that the person opening the email is a real, live, human – so be real and speak to the individual.
