When & How to Reset

When do we know it's time for a reset? Exploring 3 self-evaluations and self-care resources:

Persistent Frustration: Becoming easily frustrated or irritated happens as a result of persistent negative thinking and feeling weighed down by little things in life. You may feel stuck, stunted, and closed in a room surrounded by doors that won't open. If you were happy with how things were going, you might not feel so easily sidelined by small inconveniences.

Maybe it's time to re-evaluate what is happening, or not happening, in your life that might be causing you anxiety or stress. Evaluate your commitments, responsibilities, the people you engage with, where you live, and your daily routine for example.

Where can you make adjustments? Some may be hard choices but as you feel into this through meditation, journaling, contemplation, and listening to your gut, you will know what needs to change to experience more joy.

Excessive Daydreaming: You find yourself mentally escaping .... a lot. Living another life, away from the people or places you know.

If you have already identified from the above that changing your circle of people or a life change is needed to keep the experience of being pulled into the dark side, but you do this by daydreaming of a different life, you already know that you aren’t happy.

Perhaps you may even find yourself thinking of uprooting, moving and living somewhere else, and this is normal, even healthy in moderation. However, if you feel yourself drifting off into fantasy land every single day or for prolonged periods of time, it could be that your heart is telling you something’s not right.

A move or severing ties with people are not always a realistic solution and perhaps isn't practical right now, so what can you do? Practicing being present with mindfulness exercises can help. Being present can be challenging, when your present reality isn’t joyful. Tools for mindfulness and emotional regulation are a positive way to be in your life than tuning out of reality. Mindfulness exercises and emotional regulation help you cope and change your personal experience with your current reality.

Life feels like one big dead-end.

If you (like many) are feeling like life isn't heading anywhere, nothing feels more hopeless than when you feel like there is no possibility for growth, change, blossoming. Life isn’t exciting all the time, sometimes things are kind of boring, and that's okay but feeling stagnant for a prolonged period of time will wear down your mental well-being.

Try these seven strategies when you feel stuck:

  1. Let go of the past. Listen to the stories in your head. ...
  2. Change your perspective.
  3. Start with small changes.
  4. Explore your purpose.
  5. Believe in yourself.
  6. Practice being hopeful.
  7. Consider talking to a professional.

What's next?

Admitting that you need a new start can be difficult, but the moment you accept it, you’ll be starting your journey towards being the best version of yourself!

Taking action to make positive change and experience your best (and deserved) life is in your control. I know this to be true.

Great reminders, Anna! Amazing synchronicity here, too, as I'm hosting a Soul Empowerment episode next week called "Where's Your Focus?" So much of life is really about perspective, isn't it? Change perspective, and everything else changes with it. The idea of "Reset" could easily mean to "change perspective", don't you think?

When I quit working for nonprofits and started a for-profit business I had a major reset. When my father died, I had an identity reset. Then there are the weekly and daily mini resets: Attitude readjustments, reprioritizing, rewriting the script of how I think things should be. I give myself time outs to sit, reflect and journal.
